What?!?!

Something doesn't add up. There are pics of the car during paint prep, but the car shows rust in door opening and hatch lift points.
While the car looks ok, I bet it's got hidden issues.

Oh, and rust bubbles on the fender edge in pic 73.

Oh, for sure. Looks like the body work was just a couple years ago. Certainly within 5.
For rust show that quickly only indicates more underlying issues. Probably a quick turnaround to make a buck.

I'm glad it didn't go for more. I think it's rusty due to the poor paint prep.

This mk1 belongs to a good friend of mine, he took an old racecar shell and totally recommissioned it for vintage racing. It's debut was Turkey Bowl at Summit Point raceway where it and the 510 below battled it out for the entire sprint race. My brother was the hired gun for the weekend as he's pretty experienced. It's a rad car, I think that little single cam revs over 8500. At Summit they were running in the 1:26, my brother was saying it certainly had more and would probably be in the 1:24-1:25 range. Not bad for an old ****rocket!

Cool car, thanks for posting! Are those wheels little E50s? Is the FI custom built or a kit?

I know the engine and fuel system was custom built by himself, he's pretty knowledgeable with air/ water cooled VW stuff. I'm not sure on the wheels but knowing him I'm sure they're the real
deal. I'll ask him. |
