Trust me I'm not trying to wear you guys out concerning ASW (which the passive phase of the search for the ping from the 777 really was), but I did it for many years as part of my job flying SH-60's.

I am, frankly, looking into the Penguin Bombers...
Well I consider a great range to be over 1,000 miles and as the old system was able to triangulate the single bang from the Soviet K-129 when it sank and that was some 1,500 miles from Hawaii I guess the system does in fact work at long distances.

"The combination of location within the ocean and the sensitivity of arrays allowed the system to detect acoustic power of less than a watt at ranges of several hundred kilometres (The system is so sensitive that it can even detect the presence of Soviet/Russian Tu-95 Bear 4-engine bombers flying overhead"

This was from a system that was originally designed in the 1950's.

Whatever name you give it, SOSUS or any of the upgrades IUSS, SOFAR, ARTEMIS or whatever it is being called now the system seems to work.

If in the 1960's they could track a ship crossing the Atlantic ocean underwater "In 1961, SOSUS tracked the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) submarine USS George Washington (SSBN-598) from the US to the UK." This was with paper graph printouts. Imagine what they could do with the current processing power and abilities. They could be able to ID a ship by hull design and propeller. The computers could be able to ID known ships (build a data base of every ship sailing the ocean) and while tracking those ships eliminate their noise signal to allow them to ID and track any new noises/threats.

Not saying you didn't do your job to the best of your abilities, but maybe all the information is/was a few levels above your pay grade.

Dolphins with lasers on their heads would take care of the Penguin bombers.

Let's say that an attack comes of this, just for the sake of the argument.
You'll post:

"My bad... LOL", right?

I find you to be selfish and uncaring in your presentations.
It disgusts me.
Trekkor, so let me get this straight. If I were to say that MAYBE, just MAYBE, the moon will drop out of orbit in about six months and smash us all to smithereens, and nearly everyone laughs uncontrollably at me for being a nutcase...and then IT HAPPENS, and then you all say "Our bad...LOL", I can consider you all selfish and uncaring? Hmm. Ok.

The reality is, ANYTHING is possible. However certain things are so nearly out of the realm of plausible, that their mere mention can, and should, garner some light hearted ridicule and big eye rolls among most reasonably sane people.

I wonder the personal attack rules as applied to PARF also apply in OT. In the PARF, Trekkors out of context, unjustified and personal attack would get a person banned.

I can only think that perhaps Cocker ran over Trekkor's dog.

The rules are supposed to be applied equally.. Parf is a sub forum of off topic after all.

If youre not writing comedy, its a criminal waste.

And in the meantime, unknown fiends are gas axing up a 777, and tying small pieces of it to monkeys to distribute over hundreds of sq miles of jungle.

The real question in my mind is: are the monkeys in on it?

Absolutely there is. We are actually trying to be logical. Logic says this plane is almost certainly lost at sea, caused by a tragic "fate is the hunter" type of accident. If you are not aware of the reference, look it up online.

I happen to be an experienced airline pilot (with AA) and just don't buy into any other more sinister explanation at this point. If evidence begins to show to the contrary, then I'll consider it. Right now, nothing I've read or heard points me to any other conclusion beyond the it-was-an-accident scenario.

No matter who you are you are just guessing.
My guess is completely different.
I will consider your guess mostly correct if they find most the plane in mostly one place.

If the monkeys are in cahoots with the penguins, we're doubly screwed...

The contract should have been given to Boing!
Or Boeing, even!

Just remember what pilots say. "If its not Bowing, Boing or Boeing, I'm not going."

I had boiing once.

That's the sound your swollen nads make when they hit your legs with every step during a bad bout of crutch rot.

In the Madagascar movies it's the Penguins that fly the planes and the monkeys are their unwitting helpers. As these are a DreamWorks production (Disney) maybe we should ask Hugh what he knows?

If it's a Bowing PenguinBomber, I'm not going if it's piloted by penguins rather than properly trained flamingo pilots!

I've never heard of one of those PenguinBombers going down in flamingos.

Except for the small detail that so far, the evidence as known supports 450knots POV, and there is no evidence at all to support yours.

Ofcourse if you discount all evidence- as you regularly demonstrate- you're quite right. Your opinion is worth the same as his.

My comment was clearly an observation of someone on here that I have had a frustrating history with. After seeing nothing but rude comments that are mostly designed to rile people up, I decided to tell him how I feel.

Maybe it was wrong?
