I've had some good burgers when eating out, but I have to say my wife makes about the testiest around. We usually just eat them with regular bread, lettuce, onion, maybe tomato, & maybe a pickle spear on the side with whatever catsup, mustard, & mayonnaise you want - pretty straight forward & simple. I just asked her, & she mixes into the ground meat: liquid smoke, Worstershire Sauce, A-1 Sauce, onion powder, salt & pepper. She says she adjusts the ingredients according to smell, so I don't have a clue about the proportions. Maybe she should mix some up & market it.

DuMont Burger in Williamsburgh (Brooklyn). Fantastic burgers and kickass onion rings.

Hodads in Ocean Beach. Prepare to stand in line for at least an hour on the weekends. If you know San Diego, you will know about Hodads.
