I asked him if that was correct but he did not agree with you
![]() BTW my wife thinks I spoil him but my doggie gets all the purina kibble he wants, and also a can of this every day when I get home from work. ![]() He weighs 34# but could use a few more lubs. He's really old and really blind and his hearing is going. He can eat whatever he wants as long as it doesn't end up on the carpet. Last edited by sammyg2; 09-03-2014 at 10:33 AM.. |

Years ago, we used to use a more expensive big brand, and then switched to raw food. When we switched the dog stopped smelling and their coat changed noticeably. Not only did the dog smell go away, but their poo goes away too. I guess the beetles and bugs eat it unlike lots of the old fashioned dry food that turns to white petrified turds when left out for a long time.

G'day!

This is what we like - it's all we have used since day one. No wet food - only kibble (and periodically chicken necks).

When I had animals, i.e. when I was married....the ex, fed them so much crap and treats, they got fat.
I changed them over to a veggie diet, fruits, and whatever was on sale at the supermarket. Threw in a couple of home grown avocado.....ran them at the beach three times a week. They loved it.

The rescue I volunteer for had a handout that let you rate dog food. It gave and took away points based on the listed ingredients. If your food got over 100, it was considered good.
Also agree that treats and food from China should be avoided.

Purina one for Scout. We generally grill chicken once a week and we do a couple extra pieces that get integrated throughout the week with the kibble. A tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream as a treat on the weekends

The next morning after, I sure know what my poop looks like after eating 1-2 cobs of corn for dinner night before.
total blow-by of yellow nuggets. ![]() regardless of brand or price, good lord people just read the label about what you're giving poochykins. 85% of them first ingredients is corn by-product or wheat something. blow-by and little or no nutrition. Fish skin, salmon, and other oils do help their coat. For the record, it was lamb and rice dry food for Rupert, then in senior years yeah you have to change things. we all miss Rupert...... ![]() ![]()

Matt, as for grains in a dogs diet, I was told by a vet that dogs should get grains and veggies - in the wild they would get it from the gut of herbivores...

I've heard/read the same thing, but I don't think the first ingredient should be the grains. That should be farther down the list.

Blue buffalo freedom dry, ground beef or ground turkey/chicken, pumpkin/sweet potato, and psyllium powder. Keeps my wiener dog regular, and lean. Also keeps him from licking/dragging his ass.
He wont eat any of the slimy, stinky, canned garbage. Would you? |
