I was looking for a similar truck recently and hoping to find one off lease for a significant discount from new. No joy. After several weeks of looking at overpriced used trucks with 30k mi at new truck prices I went down and picked out a nice new one. 2014 Tacoma double cab PreRunner, V6 Auto, L/B, SR trim, tow package. It's more than I wanted to spend but it will probably meet my needs for another 10 years or so. C'est la vie.

Theoretically, used car prices are coming down. Read it in an industry publication and have read it online. Just haven't seen it in the prices of the cars I'm shopping for...

Falling used-car prices roil the auto market. 9.21.14 USA Today

Gotta love the news. Used car prices have fallen 0.4% from last year. Less than on half of one percent. And that's compared to last year which represented near record levels. They're adjusting -- slowly -- to more normal levels. There was a very tight supply of used cars, and a high demand. The demand is the same, the supply is getting better.

Yup...exactly what I ended up doing as well. I got the TRD sport with 4x4 though. It's very nice and in a few years I will have a nice "used car" from a "careful owner".

I'm one of those guys from whom anyone would want to buy a vehicle...or moto.
I used to be accused of cleaning my motorcycles with a Q-Tip.

much more super hi-mile cars 150 170 190k for sale
very very few low mile or even mid mile cars
I see ads with low miles now it is near 100k
many with rebuilt titles and BS claims of minor damage
very few RWD cars
all with higher prices
every guy with an older car thinks it is a collector item
lots of fake older cars like z-28's priced like real ones

of course I never deal with stealers
as they know value, hide flaws, lie cheat and steal ect
and have stupid salesmen/managers to deal with

At least around here, there are an awful lot of fly-by-night car dealers and curb-stoners listing cars in the "by owner" category. Just bought a 2006 Civic for the teenagers to drive off Craigslist. Had to look at a lot of crap to find a reasonable deal, but not a good deal. Being under a time crunch was the biggest factor there.

I needed to replace my '92 Toyota 4x4 V6 with 185,000 4 yrs ago...The 2nd engine was losing compression in 2 cylinders

Searched long and hard for a used Toyota 4x4 V-6.....Biggest engine they made up to 2005 was a 3.4.......As I only use a PU about 5,000 miles/yr, I was looking for something about 6-8 yrs old.....Best price for anything considering was at least $12K.

Bought a 2004 Mazda 4.0 V6, 4x4, Extended cab for $8K......It's my 4th Mazda PU. It does all I need to do....More power than my old 3.0 '92 Toyota and still gets better mileage...Both 5 speed.

Which is to say, you bought a Ford Ranger with a Mazda badge. Good trucks though, my in-laws have an old Ranger that they can't kill.

The truth is I hate buying and selling cars. That's one of the big reasons I keep my dailys as long as I do.
I'd rather fix what I have than buy something unknown.

I've promised myself a new car when I retire. That's 16 years away (65) so it will probably be "affordable bangers" for me until then.

It has been 19 years since I bought a used car (my 911) and 40 years since I bought a new car. I am not ready to mess with it as yet. It is just so much easier to keep my old high mileage cars running in top condition. Both of my cars are going up in value. That is way better than depreciation.

My wife would love it if I came home in a brand new Cayman S but then I would have to sell my 911. Why buy a car that will loose thousands of dollars in a year when my 911 has gone UP several thousand dollars in the last few months?

Matt - You are correct, but I found the Mazda was priced cheaper than the exact same Ranger (both much cheaper to buy than a Toyota)

Of course, the Mazda/Ford marriage goes clear back to the early '70's. When the Mazda dealer didn't have a part in stock, I'd go across the street to the Ford dealer and get a part for the "Courier"......

SR package option I suppose. That is how it sat on the lot.
