So here is something new....



It's a 2012 Roush Stage 3 Hyper with 20k, #6 of 25. To say it's fast is an understatement. It's the full on Roush package with full suspension, bigger front brakes, supercharger, and a lot of little cosmetic touches. It actually handles a lot better than I expected, it turns in quickly and is very well controlled without being harsh. The handling and responsiveness is, dare I say it, sport car like. The sound is absolutely wicked. With a set of Recaros it would be damn near perfect, the Roush "sport" seats are not great.

Honestly I'm smitten with it. I've had a lot of 996s but this one feels special. Everything about it is effortless. These things pretty frequently get called GT cars, but after owning one I'd call it every bit a sports car. Maybe things are different when pushing it on the track, but it's very fun and responsive on public roads. It does happen to be very comfortable on the highway, which isn't a bad thing in my book. The turbos are very linear, it's just a huge expanse of effortless power. It's a fantastic car that I would love to keep.

So sadly true. Keeping the merchandise doesn't make for a very profitable business.

I told my wife that someday I'll be looking for one of these to keep, and they won't be affordable anymore. I totally believe that. I've already missed the boat on a 996 GT3, and I believe the turbos have bottomed out. They are an incredible car for the money.

Well the 996TT will be listed today, a few thoughts after driving it for several weeks. The car overall is just as fantastic as I expected. It's everything great about a standard 996, just turned up to 11. The power is fantastic, and the delivery is wonderfully linear and smooth. It just feels like a bigger motor, lag is nearly impossible to detect. The Mezger engine has a little air-cooled character to it, it has a little raspier voice than the M96 you'll find in a standard 996. It sounds almost identical to an air-cooled car at idle.

I've often read of the 996TT being criticized as more GT than sports car, I can't say I believe that to be the case. It feels light and tossable, and the limits are certainly higher than anything you'll ever approach on the street. Maybe in a hardcore track environment, but even then I think it would hold its own. I suppose it's GT in the sense that it's comfortable and quiet, I can easily picture myself taking it on a long road trip because it devours the highway.

Really my only criticism is that the packaging is such that everything is harder to get to, which is standard Porsche turbo. The spark plugs took two hours of removals to be accessible and the fuel filter took some strong cursing to replace. Nothing too horrible, but worthy of note.

So overall I loved it, pretty simple. It's one that I would definitely keep, and feels special. They are pretty good deals at the moment, I can't see them staying cheap forever.

Yeah, those pictures were low quality so I removed them. Sunroof was standard on the 996TT, sunroof delete was an option. Really really rare for US market TTs because they were typically loaded when dealer ordered, sunroof delete was special ordered.

Very different car from the Roush, more of a cruiser. It looks simply spectacular and is a lot of fun to drive.

Here is my '77 308 GTB. 4 cam, two valve 4-2 bbl Webbers, aluminum wet sump 3 litre with roughly 240 hp, with an 8 pound flywheel.
The car is about 43 inches tall and the door lock is at kneecap height, weighs in at about 3200 lb, so it is not a rocket, but it does handle.
The spring rate has been doubled, poly bushings, 22mm f/r bars, cornerweighted, BBS 360 wheels and Dunlop direzzionales, (225/40-18 and 255/35-18)
I spent a lot of time getting the brakes balanced. F-50 front Brembos on 355x32 full floating discs with 360 rear calipers, (including parking brakes) on the back 330x28 floating discs. Bullet proof brakes on the track.
Upgrading the ignition from twin 4 cyl distributors with two sets of points to a single distrib with mag pick up and msd 6al & blaster coil, has removed one of the reasons Ferrari's have for fussy expensive maintenance. Using two 4 tube manometers was a big help getting the webbers synced.

Great car, Once had a gal ask me if it was a new mustang :-)

Will, it's a long story. I entrusted my website to a friend with good intentions but not much experience. About one month ago, still without a viable website, I passed it along to a former customer of mine that owns a web advertising company. We are working on it now, in exchange for some modifications to the Boxster that I sold him last year.

So I guess what I'm saying is, stay tuned.

Amazing 308. It's unbelievable to me that the car is from 1977. It looks world apart from everything else made around that time.
