That's funny. The used car business is a front for a budding modeling/spokesman gig.
It looks like you've found your sweet spot, hopefully you can make it work. |

Magical car....
Quote:
I sometimes go out to the garage to just look at the car, in fact, after terrible fights with the wife, I can go out to the garage, get in the car, close the door, put my hands on the wheel, smile, and all is right with the world. This scenario was stolen from the jag forums, but I find it applicable with the green car, which brings up the question, how do we define the symbiosis of the driver with his car. Sadly this car will go, as soon as I bring the service up to date. I will retain Dad's 74 coupe because it was his car, (he loved this car), and I can feel good about doing the work to make the car my own. We often bantered back and forth, about the fine German racing car and the Italian car. He had a degree from Berkley in engineering, but he wasn't into wrenching on the car, a preference I easily forgive. I miss him and look forward to having fun moving his car forward. At 66, I look forward to getting the car up to "sport" spec and occasionally letting her loose on the track. (First time I have ever referred to any car's gender). Ah well, perhaps I am getting sentimental, he has been gone some years now, and I still miss him.

![]() So much like our good friend pwd, I enjoy the Mustangs. Especially the GT500, as you can see from me purchasing #2. It's a 2008 with 10,500 miles, manual (of course), one owner, nav, HIDs, and a number of tasteful upgrades including a Shelby signed interior plaque. The owner was so OCD that he used double sided tape to attach the rear plate, because he didn't want to put holes in the bumper. It is no kidding like a new car.

![]() So to offset the Mustangs, here's another Porsche. It's a 1986 951 with 106k, and EVERYTHING works! Even the clock! Huge list of recent PM, Koni suspension with front coil overs, full Vitesse Stage 3 kit with MAF and piggyback. Pretty much everything you want on a 951 has been done. It needs a little sorting but is a rocket at 18 psi. Very nice exterior, driver quality interior. I love 951s.

Anyone looking for an investment?
![]() ![]() It's a 1989 930 with 42k, formerly owned by Wayne Gretzky including an autographed sun visor and "Great 1" CA plate. I'm selling it for a customer, very cool car.

Here's a better picture of the 930. Very cool car, even my typically car indifferent wife commented on it. It's on Ebay if any of you want to lowball me.
![]() ![]() Here's my recent 2008 GT500, which I seem to have grown quite fond of. Of the many used cars that I have owned, this is probably the nicest condition wise. Basically a brand new car with 10k on it. Also on Ebay hanging out with my other one.

Does the Wayne Gretzky angle really add anything? The buyer would have to be one serious fan. What do those normally go for with the same miles? I would think there would be serious deductions for the missing Fuchs and other stock parts, as well as the huge holes cut in the door panels for the "baller stereo", regardless of who once owned it?

It's somewhere between cool history and awesome depending on the looker. I don't know that it adds value, but it's a cool bit of history on an otherwise desirable car. For a car guy that's a hockey fan it would be a dream come true, but even non-hockey fans have heard of Wayne Gretzky.
As for the modifications, having the original stuff would certainly be good. But considering how most 930s have been modded to hell and back, a set of wheels, side panels, steering wheel, and Fuchs are pretty easy to return to stock.

I don't think the Ruf alloys are going to detract much.
Cool. Les

Those things weigh about 400 lbs. each. Total crap, I hate to say.
![]() And I agree that it could be returned to stock but price a new set of 7/9" Fuchs these days and get out the smelling salts. That was not a good mod. Same with new door panels from dealer, which is the only place you'll find them. The steering wheel is easy to find, (few hundred $$), shifter would be a dealer item. Don't get me wrong, it's not irreversibly ruined but will take many thousands to put right. I'm pretty sure that celebrity ownership heritage adds little or nothing, (especially when they don't own it anymore), unless it's McQueen or something. So what do these go for normally with same miles?

Thanks for your positive feedback Denis. It could probably be put back to stock (if desired) for $5k. Relative to the likely selling price that is pocket change. Plus I'm with Les, I think they look awesome.

They are good looking rims, no argument there. It's too bad they're so heavy, especially in that size. I'm generally a RUF fan and never understood the weight of those rims.
I don't mean to tear down the car, it's a great car but needs to be put back right if it's such a collector's item these days. The mods are unfortunate but we've all seen a lot worse. Surely you don't consider any of them value enhancing, even though you're the seller? I thought that we were all hard core enthusiasts and old friends here, that's why I'm telling it straight as opposed to just blowing smoke up your ass about the car.

I don't actually have a personal stake in the car, I'm just selling it for a local enthusiast.
Would it be better if it was bone stock, totally original, mint condition? Sure, but the market is so hot for these cars that it won't matter. I think the Gretzky ownership is a small value adder, the Ruf wheels and Momo stuff don't hurt anything, and the stereo I could do without. But again, all easily reversed if desired. At least it isn't a slantnose conversion with chrome 20s.
