I believe in karma. It means for me you reap what you sow. If you sow good seeds you should get a good crop. If you sow crappy seeds then you likely won't get anything.

This is proven in our block. I treat everybody well and am generally well received. However one individual is always trying to win at the expense of others. Most of everybody avoids her like the plague or are just civil. She does not get it and never will. What goes around comes around.
Guy.

Agreed, lots of bad things happening to good people, good things happening to bad people.

Mind you I do believe in helping out my fellow man (or even that occasional animal) but that is down to my religion.
Karma (as it is being interpreted here) is just doing good hoping for payback... like paying into your IRA... nothing altruistic about it.
Or (if I understand it correctly) the Islamic belief that when you die they (whoever "they" are) weigh your good and bad deeds and if the good outweighs the bad you get into heaven (WIN!).

Just my ideology bit I feel we should do good for the sake of doing good... when livi heals a child he does it because that is what he loves to do... sure he gets some financial compensation for his time but that in no way compares to the good he is doing. (if I may presume to know what livi thinks/feels/does)

If you knew me you would find out I am a very optimistic guy... however I'm also a very realistic guy.

Sorry if my Karma ran over your dogma.

I agree. While I talk about earning "karma points," I don't think karma is a magical power or the universe keeping score. Instead, I think people who have positive outlooks treat others better, are more open to opportunity, and generally let the bad stuff go, while focusing on the good stuff. The result is, people with the above attitude toward life seem to have lots of good luck.

Guy.
Did you know you were quoting the bible?

" Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."

Problem is Karma and positive attitude are two different things... traditional Asian Karma involves reincarnation... meaning you may not get pay back for your good/bad deeds in this lifetime. Are you guys okay with that?

Yes I know that I was quoting the bible. Biblical references lead to Parf which I am trying to avoid.

I cannot take any credit for this and I honestly admit I plagiarized.

I have never heard of contributing to your IRA being called good karma. How about sound financial planning?

Sorry Guy, I didn't mean that as a stab or a put down you... I kinda presumed you knew that was a paraphrase...
I also presumed a discussion on the subject of Karma would involve some discussion of spirituality seeing as it is a concept of many Asian philosophies.

Did I mention that my dogs breath smells like dog food?

Missed the point... being good trusting that you will get good payback (karma) is like thinking you are winning brownie points that will come back to you later (as good karma). Just like putting money into your IRA so you can get money out of your IRA later on.

You're describing Schadenfreude.

Karma is personal.

No problem Scott. No offence taken. I was never very good at referencing quotes in term papers either.

I just like to think that if you live your life right, good things will come to you. Maybe karma, maybe the outcome of living a good life. Either way, I'm doing my best.

I am not referring to my karma. I have seen far too many horrible people do far too well and seen good people suffer. I am the nicest guy you never met in person. I go out of my way to treat people well. It really surprises them.

Maybe the Eastern concept of karma, but Western? No way

He was describing an unfulfilled expectation that he was hoping for.

Just to clarify... Like Torba I go out of my way to be nice to people and have a positive attitude... and many people I work with are confounded/confused by it (maybe it is a Miata driver thing)

I may be totally off base (yet again) and I have only read a few books on eastern mysticism ('Zen and the art of motorcycle maintained' counts right?)... but I think the concept of Karma is to do good just for the sake of doing good... to do good for gain (to build up good Karma) would negate any positive Karma because you are doing good with ulterior motives.

I need to stop typing now because my head is starting to hurt.

Try using your fingers.
They're gentler to the keyboard and it rewards you by not sending pain rays to your cranium. It's keyboard karma.

"whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap"
You can call it karma if you want.
