Good Plan? bad plan?

Plan A1;
Sell the 65 Mustang. I won't get my money out of it....that is a given. Hoping to keep the damage to a minimum. Since the major expenses are over, the smart money would to be to pimp it out as much as possible before peddling it....but that would take more time than I'm willing to put into it. None of its shortcomings involve running & driving. It looks decent also.....a 10-15 footer.

Plan A2:
Buy a Lotus 7 clone. This presents a problem. The car I'm looking at is titled in OR and licensed in CA. The current owner is in the service and I don't know if there are special smog rules for servicemen's cars. The car is titled as a 2006 which in WA. would need to comply with WA.'s smog rules......*I think*. This is where my conundrum comes into play. Am I gonna be able to get a WA. license? As long as the hoops are not too high (add a cat perverter or something is acceptable to me).
The engine is from a Honda 2000 so it should be pretty clean no how.

If I have my head planted firmly in my rectum please say so. Thas why I keep you'z guys around here.

The 7 will be more fun to drive, but only on nice days. I built one with an XR4Ti motor and a T5 tranny.

I'd doubt there's special rules for registering it unless you also were military. I'm not sure how a car can be titled in Oregon and licensed in CA. I had to apply for a new OR title when I moved up here.

Sell the moose stang* before you dump any more hard earned $$$$ into it that you won't get back.

look around for a while, Take yer time, do yer homework on that lotus 7, prices should be lower in the dead of winter.
Find one where the seller will deliver it to your front door with a big red bow on it.

You've had enough hassles for one life, let someone else do the hassling and take it the easy way fer a change.

At least that's howz I C it.

Yup. And in order to be licensed in CA means it'd need to have passed smog inspection, unless it's titled as 1975 or older. Not the case as you've already mentioned (2006).

Although states sometimes have special rules for those in the service, recognizing that they are likely stationed for a long period of time somewhere they wouldn't call home.

I would not buy a car that has questionable title, registration or smog status. NEVER fall in love with a particular car - there are always more like them. Always take your time buying. Other than that your plans are sound.

I was mistaken, the car is licensed & titled in OR.

I am looking into what I need to get that done in Washington. The seller has a title so from that aspect there *shouldn't* a problem there. Emissions could be trouble, tho. I would prefer a street car tho, so I am looking into that. I've had a trailer queen.

I have time. It's a fair weather only car and it's been rainy & gray for about 2 weeks now. That will stop sometime after the fourth of July

The Mustang don't go out in the rain either and, frankly, it's not much fun to drive regardless. Porsches have me spoiled.....the truck is an appliance, but a toy is supposed to be fun.

I believe it is best to sell a car you have lost the desire to own and drive. Sounds like the Mustang has reached the point where your pleasure in ownership is eclipsed by your desire to sell. Clean it up as best as possible (new interior items, some chrome and buff and polish) and send it down the road. You may have sellers remorse though in a few months when spring is here.

Don't know how much you have in it but be prepared for a lot of low-ballers and tire kickers. They will point out every little thing they see wrong to get the price down to their level of comfort. Don't budge too much. If your price is reasonable and in line with the market, it will sell in due time. This is the time of year when the market is usually flooded with summer cars though.

No real thoughts on a Lotus clone. Looks like fun for a weekend or two, but read a story in Automobile a few weeks ago about a road trip in one that didn't seem like it was too much fun day to day.

Register it in Oregon. Quite a few counties are smog exemept and don't require testing.

Basically, I am a law abiding citizen of WA. & prefer to remain that way, so the OR registration is out. I will. however drive it around with the OR tabs for a while.
Living in an adjoining county to OR has the WSP is on alert for "tax scofflaws" so one has to be careful. As I said, I don't mind doing what it takes to comply with the regs.....even if it means buying a trailer.

I'm askng for $33K OBO for the Mustang.....I have substantially more into it...but I'd take 30K.

In CA you have the option to register under SB100 if it is a replica of an old car or specialty car.

Is it a Fastback or Coupe? Can't remember. If Fastback: Here is what Hagerty thinks is the current value of a 1965 Mustang 289 4bbl Fastback.

Based on your hints at condition, could be a condition 3 car with a rough value of $27,800 as of September 2014. So your $30k estimate is not far off.

Here's a link to what passes for my build.
Vintage Mustang Forums

I haven't gotten serious about work of selling it and didn't mean for this forum to become a classified section. I'll start with CL, (where I have had excellent success) then maybe to evilbay. I'm in no hurry. Gotta get it outside for some decent pictures....but the rains are in charge of that trip.

The guys on the Mustang forum say it's priced pretty close but selling to Europe is the hot ticket.
Evilbay gives that exposure....I think.
