i'd recommend anyone interested in knives to get one. feels like the 993 of knives.
i'm actually gonna wrap up mine (10") and mail it to my brother. he just remodeled his kitchen and has one single knife. i did hone it to a whole other level.. it's a good knife. great actually, just kinda "vanilla".

i need to make room for this!

Not only in grandma's kitchen but our parents and now our kitchen.. these are some of the Old Hickory knives our grand-parents used and must be 70-80 years old and still very serviceable. I bought our set in 1970 and they are still used daily. However, I had to replace the paring knives a couple of years ago (they just disappear??) and the blades on the new knives are thinner and the wood used for the handles definitely isn't hickory -

In this thread, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/830169-more-kitchen-knife-talk-questions.html, I recommended Henckels Pro S. I still recommend them. Specifically I have the Chef's knife, a paring knife, and a bread knife. Have not had a need for a butcher knife. My wife likes to buy pre-cut.
