Now higher echelon CBC executives are being pulled into the pre termination story; as if the Corporation doesn't have enough troubles.

The taxpayers are only out the difference between CBC's lawyers' bill, and $18,000.00, which shouldn't be too bad.

I listened often. His sexual proclivities are none of my business. I don't condone what he is accused of but it's too early to judge. Based on what I've seen/heard things don't look good for him.

As a past Prime Minister said when he was Justice Minister: CBC Digital Archives - Trudeau's Omnibus Bill: Challenging Canadian Taboos - Omnibus Bill: 'There's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation'

But when it go over the line, one has to pay the piper...

It ain't done yet! Whenever the CBC or any other Crown Corp goes to court, somebody somewhere gets "paid out" no matter what the outcome is, loose OR win!

yup. no real winners here, that's for sure.

Gomeshi went to trial. quickly. and publicly.
Cosby? who knows? Cosby is guilty of far more serious crimes, imho.

The police never asked, and never did a full investigation. The evidence existed, they didn't look.

It's the job of the Crown to prepare and vet the witnesses. They did neither. They were lazy and thought they had a slam dunk.

From MacLeans:

Quote:
But there’s another lesson to be learned here: That for justice to prevail in sexual assault cases, complainants need rigorous preparation for the adversarial tenor that accompanies all criminal prosecution. That begins with basic understanding of both the definition of sexual assault and consent. On the stand, DeCoutere said she didn’t think her experience qualified as sexual assault: “I thought you had to be broken and raped,” she said.
She was not ready for what she faced. Blame her lawyer, the police and the Crown.

I would imagine he'll be slappin' and chokin' his lawyer around tonight as a way of thanks.

(Maybe he already has been doing that after his mommy goes to bed.)

There is another case pending for sexual harassment of a co-worker.

If he is found not guilty you can expect a large wrongful dismissal settlement.

The previous case was not the cause of his termination from CBC.

Ladies are going bat poop about this. protesting, screaming rape culture.
They are saying the victim is on trial and that should be changed, basically they want special rights as victims.
Although I agree this sucks, at the moment that's how the court of law works and I have no clue how you could fix this issue.
How do you have the right to face your accuser if they have special rights?

This case in a nutshell, 3 witnesses all of the omitted the fact the tried to contact the guy to get dates etc after the fact. Two had thousands of emails between themselves (after the fact) about him and again they omitted to tell this to the crown (DA). One was even sending sexy pics to him again after the fact.
So basicly the prosecution was totally blindsided. Both the cops and the prosecution were incompetent with their homework.
His lawyer did her job.

Plus I never figured how they got a sexual assault charge out of this. The sex was consensual, it was the "donkey punch", choking, etc. during sex that was assault.

Not defending this guy, personally I think he's a POS, BUT you can't run a justice system on emotion. I know the system is flawed, but it's the best we got right now.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

Note how his female lawyer dismantled the victimized women making the claims. Above a certain level (fame, money) it's just business, all of it, from the sex offers right through to the acquittal.
