I liked it. I think it surprised a lot of people, like me, who don't know the comic and wondered what a tree and a raccoon would contribute to a marvel movie.

They've been pretty clever with these movies. Antman rounds off Phase 2 of the marvel movie universe.

Phase 3 is:

A million and a half, really?

That's what my wife says to me every time we watch a Marvel movie.

Back in the mid 90's the company I worked for was looking to diversify our business and secure a source for IP that we would not have to pay royalties on.

We'd already had some success with licensed Marvel products and decided on buying a comic book company as it met both business needs.

Against our advice the CEO decided to buy Valiant Comics instead of Marvel because Valiant was solvent and Marvel was going chapter 11.

My response to him during that meeting was "are you out of your ****ing mind?", to which he replied, "Valiant is $1.5m cheaper"

Talk about tearing up a winning lottery ticket.

My response to my wife is "we would have screwed it up anyway".

I liked it, wife not so much... which is odd because she likes a lot of the Marvel stuff (we DVR Shield and have see all of the Iron Man movies).

However this was a lot more SciFi than the other Marvel stories she likes... just a good fun action movie with a few cool twists.

I liked it, but it wasn't mind-blowing. Watching a movie for what it is makes all the difference. I didn't expect to see Oscar material, and I was satisfied.

I guess I like my SciFi with an edge like Dune. Cloverfield had its place. Enders Game was almost there. Jupiter Ascending has potential ...

You just lost all sci-fi cred with that one, bro. Dune--both the movie and the mini-series--was horrible. Yes, yes, the books were great. But it didn't translate well to the screen at all.

Frankly I was really happy with Guardians because it was generally irreverent and refused to take itself seriously. That and my kids loved it.

Have you read the book Ender's Game? The movie was OK at best compared to the book. Not really the fault of the film makers... It's tough to capture the internal content of the book. It's also less shocking because they aged the kids 8-10 years.
