Marks and Spencer Extra Strong tea. It’s really nice, everyone that stops by for a ‘brew’ absolutely loves it and comments on it.

It’s cheap in the UK and my in laws bring us a bunch when they visit. I see even Amazon sells it now.

Not to be confused with black tea; it's different stuff.
Nothing in mine either if I'm having Darjeeling or Pu-Erh (or white, green or oolong). I find that pretty much anything Asian is great by itself. I'm sure the others are as well, but I like the others with a little something.

I find that brewing time also has a HUGE effect on flavor. A quick brew (30secs - 2mins) gives lots of flavor without bitterness. You can also usually steep the same leaves 2-3 times. If you brew longer (3-5 mins) then I usually find that the bitterness goes way up and it's not as good.

Ah, ha. Interesting.

I remember seeing Mr. twinings on TV. He was a really neat guy. He said draw tea (not just his) for three minutes, don't stir it, and use 90 celsius which = 194 Fahrenheit. something about boiling point brings out the tannins too much.

I have a Zojirushi hot water bottle/heater. I think it's got 3 set-points, 160º, 195º, 208º. The default is 195 and that's where we keep it.

I once found a site that sold Asian teas that had different (excellent) recommendations for different temps and steep times for various teas. Most of the places that I get tea now, even if the tea itself is good, the directions are usually crap. Weird stuff like "4 tbs of tea for 5 mins." Obviously, they want you to come back and buy more tea, but good grief, 4 tbs! And 5 mins? Tea rarely takes that long, and usually doesn't taste that good if it does, at least, not to me.

Tea, depends on my mood

When the lemons are ripe I drink a lot of green tea with lemon and honey. Hot or iced.

I like regular black tea, flavored like Earl Grey or with fruit flavor, say orange or raspberry. Summer I make sun tea.

I drink a lot if iced coffee too

If you are taking any meds may want to check with doctor. Valerian can effect quite a few classes of medications including heart meds and antidepressants.

BTW - always interesting to go back and see some of the posts from older members who kinda dropped off the radar.

But I digress......

Friend of mine mentioned he was drinking this so I bought some and will have later tonight before going to bed.

The tea bag has a Bob Marley quote on it --- so must be some good sheet!

I've recently discovered a Brown Rice tea...it's interesting. Otherwise it's black or orange pekoe with milk and honey for breakfast, Earl Grey mid-morning, green tea or green tea with jasmine until dinner then again black tea , ginger lemon or green tea with chamomile. Not the same every day but near enough.

I've been a Celestial Seasonings "Tension Tamer" fan for a long while along with their "Sleepytime".

Then I went to see "Hot Tuna" at McCabe's in Santa Monica (amazing) and they were selling these teas along with the merch. I bought this one (now I use it to store my picks)..

It is a GREAT tea but she only mixes it for Jack Cassidy (bassist) and Jorma. But she has others that are phenomenal and I'm not a tea guy.

Taylors Scottish breakfast tea.
Very very different from English and Irish versions by same manufacturer. Has a slight malty flavor that does it for me.

Otherwise it’s plain old Assam.

Not very adventurous, but I'm not a big tea drinker.
Constant Comment

Yep, the "maltiness" is exactly what I'm after with my preferred assam and ceylon teas... yum! I also drink them with milk and sugar because I am a barbarian.

Actually, black tea without cream and sugar is uncivilized.

What I've never understood is the English habit of pouring brewed tea into the milk.

Weaned myself off sugar 30 some years ago. No way I’d have black tea without milk though.
