River cruise? This little jet boat is pretty fun. Portland Spirit | Dinner Cruises | Lunch and Brunch Cruises | Weddings | Willamette and Columbia River

You can sit up top with the Captain.

I second a visit to Manzanita on the coast. Just about 90 miles from Portland.

A ride on the Tram up to OHSU might be good if you are lucky enough for a clear day.

i cannot stress this enough.

ignore the $9 price tag and order yourself (or your favorite kid) the Vanilla MALT milkshake at Salt and Straw. i kid you not, i had one a year and a half ago, and i have had one other (lowly regular shake) since. they are so good, they will RUIN everything you think you know about vanilla ice cream + malt + vigorous blending. it is insanely good. it is the single best dessert item i have ever eaten. i simply dont do milkshakes anymore. i'll wait until i land in portland. hahah.

and the Fried Chicken plate at SCREEN DOOR..great stuff.

non food stuff? i love the big book store. any book store that has a map is a good thing. some of the coolest bicycle shops i have ever step into are in Portland. those guys take cycling serious. like a religion serious. you'll see makes and models you've never heard of. and gear..you've never seen. i almost bought this inline tiny ass supplemental brake handle for my cross bike. super cool. but they were out!

Voodoo donut sucks. sorry.

i consider myself a bit of a donut aficionado. i stood in line for a damn hour, when i got to the front, i ordered a simply glazed donut. the guy questioned me. i told him i wanted to see how good their donut was, and i figured the best way was to order a regular one. something i could compare to the "datum" i have mentally set for glazed donuts..to level the playing field.

hahah..he looked nervous. i ate it outside. it sucked. it was worst than a grocery store donut. i dont care if you hide it under a mountain of fruity pebbles..or bacon. like any good home build, it's all about the foundation.

Get to the beach.. Cannon beach is only 90 minutes away, you'll regret missing it as much as someone who was traveling from Portland to Montana on I84 would regret not stopping to see Old Faithful....

When will you be here?

Jake's Famous Crawfish - the one on west 12th.

This is one of the best restaurant / bars we've ever been to, period.

I'm like that with Ice Cream. I order vanilla. Why? Because as you perfectly stated, you have to compare the base ingredients in their pure form.

But at Voodoo I had to order the voodoo guy. He's so cute. Hate the hippie weirdos down there though and almost punched the gas station guy in the face.

You ain't lived until you have jumped in and given Herman a big ol hug!

If the salmon are running you can stop by the dam and they have underwater windows where you can watch the salmon go up the ladder.

Oh... just because I always have to be the odd ball... Portland is always associated with great beer and coffee... however there are also some very good wineries near there too.

Wide range of schools. Reed is an elite liberal arts college with acting science too. Lewis & Clark is a small private liberal arts college, a bit removed from the city center. PSU is an urban school, I don't know much about it but a friend just finished a biochemistry degree there and will have no trouble getting to grad school. The others I dunno. Considering University of Oregon or Oregon State, or are they only looking at Portland schools?
