No V-8 tow rig is going to get stellar fuel economy while towing but that Grand Wagoneer gets 7-8 mpg empty, going downhill. And it's truly one of the worst cases of automotive malpractice ever foisted on the American consumer. I owned one once, new swear words were invented. POS is not fair to all of the perfectly fine pieces of schit around.

Same with driving that early Suburban 4x4. You would park it in your museum after a half hour. Back to reality, my 1999 Tahoe drives and tows great and the Airstream goes down the road better than any new trailer with its light weight, aerodynamics and perfect balance plus T-bar and dampened suspension.

The long long trailer

Some things to check out in your new trailer.
Look for leaks, seams can be resealed. Leaks will rot the floors. Very common issue.

Replace the converter/ charge controller. Old ones are a fire risk and don't regulate charge rate like modern ones. Bad for batts.

Check out frame in the back of trailer, known to separate from floor.

And the axel will most likely need replaced as rubber parts fail at about 25/30 years, resulting very rough ride
Leading to leaks and other wear and tear on interior parts.

My motorhome came with driveline vibration that caused problems in the cabinets attachments to the shell, since sorted and repaired.

The shell of your looks to be in exceptional condition. If the floors and interior are as nice then you really did score! These things mentioned above are regular maintaince and up grades.

Hey Sid, This may be a flashback for you. It's parked right next to my spot up here in Chino Valley. Avions are said to be even better built than airstreams. But don't have the cult following that drives up the prices on airstreams

This 20' avion belongs to an older neighbor who is talking about selling it.

Richard, thanks again. I'm sure that I'll be spending some time on the AS forum now as well as here, the BMW airhead forum and my usual cat videos.

I have two new, balanced trailer tires on it, (Carlisles), I've only towed it once so far to the trailer shop but it rolled down the highway very smoothly. I can't wait to get out on the road with it in a couple days, heading south and west.

I do not have any interior photos on this iPad, but I'll try to get some up soon. The interior is very nice, the owner was a finish carpenter and built his own cabinets but ordered the appliances from AS, according to his daughter. I'll be replacing the carpet and generally refreshing things but it's perfectly livable right now. Pretty amazing.

The wheels are not to my taste either but it's a gorgeous truck. Being that it's a mild custom, I'd love a set of '60s mags on it like American 200Ses. But then I'm old and my tastes were formed in the last century. Some youngster prob likes those rims better.
