yep
Or maybe it's because you make judgements about people. We are all proud of you for paying your own way but don't hate on a kid that gets a little help. she is driving a 240 that I paid 500 bucks for. She cleans the house helps with dinner and taxis my younger child around. After surviving cancer twice and living with life long physical isues I think she deserves a break. Thank you for everyone who responded with positive feedback. That's why I love this forum. Lots of good ideas. The cayenne was just a thought but I think I will show her some of the imports.

When we were broke, my daughter did without and saved pennies. Now that we have made a better life for ourselves, we all shared the pain and we all share the benefits (daughter included). My wife and daughter will both always drive the nicest, safest, most reliable automobile possible if I have to walk. I don't want them breaking down alone some night when I am not there...just because I am cheap.

funny update
![]() this came into my shop today for some interior work. I brought my daughter down to look at it. She told me " that car is way to big for me to park". So I showed her an mdx that's here also and she said it's still a little big. So next i'll show her the small suvs. She also said that she doesn't want me to pay a lot in insurance. Man what did I do to deserve such a sweetheart.

I've never seen someone put diamond plate on the bumper of one of those. Different, that's for sure.

I have been tempted by these prices myself. But then when I started reading, it got scary pretty quick. I don't have the time to be chasing gremlins and it is a fact that a 10 year old Cayenne will nickle and dime you with issues compared to, say a Toyota Highlander. What would worry me most is the thing being unreliable and leaving your daughter stranded or at least in distress, i.e. dash lights etc.
You said that this is only a little more than some of the old base compact SUVs you have been looking at. My suggestion is to take your budget to 12k for the base compact SUVs and you'll find something pretty decent. Personally I don't get the "want to sit higher to see" argument, but the popularity of high seating vehicles certainly speaks for this being something most people like. I enjoy low center of gravity. Ultimately I feel safer, as I think there is less chance I roll or can't out-maneuver a bad situation. Have fun with your daughter. Make this a fun experience. Mine aren't ready to drive yet and we already are eying cars they like. G |

Normally that's a painted plastic or aluminum finish insert, depending on model. I priced replacing it on my '09 GTS due to a small crack.

Because your daughter doesn't really know what she wants but size is important, can I suggest taking her to a place like CarMax at a time when it is closed (like Sunday Morning) and just walk the lot. She will be able to see the sizes and you can narrow down the choices from there.
Can I say kudos to you, Dad, for considering something fun for your daughter. So many Dads, pigeon hole their girls in boring cars.

My wife's family and extended family are all very well off and hand cars out to their kids, nice cars, new Cayenne's, BMWs, Audis, etc etc, like lunch money. These kids don't care about their cars, treat them as disposable, and expect everything to be taken care of for them... Imports are like appliances, they're great. Good luck, didn't mean to come across as a personal attack.

I bought my daughter a '74 911 when she was in high school. She loved the car, but struggled to drive it. She ended up with my wife's 94 4Runner which was perfect, I got the 911 and the wife got a new Lexus. Everyone was happy.

I got my grandpa's 914 at 15. I had to re-build nearly the entire car.

She'd probably consider it too large for parking as well. I love a good Chevy Tahoe but this teenager needs a compact SUV or non-SUV.
