Misquoted.

"...I hate almost all you guys..."

Welcome to the forum. Kind of a rough way to come in but what the heck....

bell 09-10-2015 04:31 AM

It's still a pretty broad statement..........

Hate in the first sentence and then tries to sell us cars! Do you read your posts before hitting enter? Wow.

bell 09-10-2015 04:41 AM

Glad I'm not the only one who this irked lol

Bugsinrugs 09-10-2015 05:00 AM

Nice collection!

jwasbury 09-10-2015 05:28 AM

Certainly looks like a nice collection of cars there.

As an opener to the PPOT forum, the initial post doesn't show a lot of maturity. The title, the overabundance of "..." punctuation and follow up with "I hate almost all you guys" is not the sort of banter one expects from someone who is 52 years old and has the means to acquire such a fine collection of rolling stock (IMO, YMMV).

Perhaps some of the regulars were "shooting from the hip" in their replies, but I can understand why given the frequency of getting "punkd" on the Interwebs.

And I'm sorry but if you can't laugh at these replies, you haven't got a sense of humor at all:

Ok - I stand corrected - saw the early offset wheels and assumed it was a non-turbo since those wheels only fit the first year 951's... Honest mistake. $20k for a pristine 951 is within reason - but finding a buyer who will pay that much is the hard part.

Maybe he was used to attitudes on the Ferrari or Mustang Forums, with the tone of his first post. This isn't a jock posturing club, this is a group of guys (and gals) that for the most part, are humble owners of fine German automobilery, and enjoy discussing matters in a low key way.

Jeepster is awesome ... Restored in Natty Boh garb by PO who passed suddenly and tragically ... Well known and loved baltimore guy ... Fiat had more rust than metal ... It wasn't with me long ... Tiger I sold last Winter ... Big mistake ... I sold six cars to a dealer inclusive of the tiger and those six cars ascended in value to double what I sold them for in the next six months ... And theyre cars I'll never find again at reasonable prices ... Many more with great cars with interesting stories if you guys are interested ...?

vash 09-10-2015 06:23 AM

nice stash of cars!!

so all of them are for sale? this is a for sale ad?

craigster59 09-10-2015 06:24 AM

I'd take the Jeepster over the Bentley any day.

As I recall, 86 had different offset than 87 & up?

Yep.

1986 offset: 23.3mm (early offset)
1987 on: 52.3mm (late offset)

Wheel offset was changed to accommodate the newly available ABS system.

The wheels in the picture are Fuchs. Only made in early offset. Thus, Philly's 951 is a 1986.
There are a lot more non-turbo early offset 944's, hence my (wrong) assumption.

Owning, wrenching, tracking and breaking my 944 for over ten years made me acquire too much info about them. Don't get me started on the chain tensioner!!!

Only the two Porsches on ebay are for sale ... Although I might put other less expensive cars up soon ... The older stuff isn't appealing to me as such as it has ... Again , Im getting old ... In play could be a 67 triumph TR4a, 79 Alfa Romeo spider, brother sister 914 2.0 cars in signal orange and willow green ... Maybe 62 Austin Healey BT7 Tri carb ... Maybe 348ts ...and probably my 04 Cayenne S as I'll use bentley and my pick up truck as daily drivers ...never to be sold are ... 97 550 maranello, 04 GT3, 03 maserati GT, 74 Love Bus, jeepster, 72 mgb, 80 911sc coupe, 67 mini, and my children ;)

philly1963 09-10-2015 07:00 AM

My 944turbo is an 86 that came from factory w Fuchs ... Correct and somewhat rare ... Tires are square set up w 25 mm rear spacers ... not stock 205s up front ...

RF5BPilot 09-10-2015 07:02 AM

If the children can't learn how to help you wash the cars, you might reconsider their status.....

sammyg2 09-10-2015 07:46 AM

Awesome, a confrontational thread where I'm not the one being a dick ;)

nice cars dude.
I'm curious how hand-built cars like bentlys and RR's hold up as the miles pile up.

They depreciate like crazy in the first 10 years, but if they are reasonably reliable then they're a great deal!

philly1963 09-10-2015 07:51 AM

Yeah exactly ... I'm thinking I'll drive it about half the time ...10k miles a year and my truck and collector. Cars the other half ... If stupid stuff doesn't break it's a good plan ... If it does then I traded good assets for a money pit ... We will, see

LeeH 09-10-2015 08:28 AM

At the risk of seeming creepy, but I have to ask:

Phil, when I was trying to figure out if you were real or not, I took a quick tour of your house. Nice place, but what's the deal with the shower in the upstairs bathroom? Maybe it was just an odd camera angle, but it looks like you'd have to be 4' tall or less to fit in that thing.
