Steve Carlton 09-13-2015 07:04 AM

Please stay, Phil. I won't hate you anymore!

You have paid your dues in spades with this thread! :)
Should be kind of smooth sailing from here!

+1 on this Billy. To the OP I know what it is like to be dissed. I got over it and so can you.
Cheers, Guy

Think its too late to ask rich Phil to buy my Unimog I have for sale?! I didn't see any Mercedes in his collection!:D

mreid 09-13-2015 08:47 AM

Philly, you're my kind of guy. No bs, straight up, good sense of humor, but can push back with the best of them. Be proud of what you created. Stick around and don't let the early rejection get to you. It's a combination of experience, insecurity, and keyboard musculature.

I believe he kept the ruse going for well over a year before someone finally ratted him out for being a fake and making all of it up. Probably some old naked fat guy typing away on his gaming computer. I sense that we may have the same thing here, gentlemen.

Motion, it's not often, but this time I think you're completely wrong. I did some doxing myself. I think what we're dealing with is case of insecurity. The car, house sq ft, watch and shoe brand dropping. It's textbook. If we all just say..'WOW! You are really rich and successful". I think he'll settle down.

I do like Philly's sense of humor, and I believe he's used to this type of welcome. Hey Philly, you are one rich and handsome SOB! Welcome to POTF. (BTW…You have a couple cars I would LOVE to own).

I had an 850 Spider with no motor, towed it home at 17 thinking I could find a motor easily enough. Went to college that fall and my parents threw it away. Hard to blame them, the 63 VW Crewcab took up a ton of space.

I suppose the operative word is - openly.

I have a wealthy retired friend who has done very well for himself. A house in Washington and another in Arizona (goes where the weather is nicer). Had his own helicopter - that he flew - between homes.

Anyway, he said he drove Mercedes vehicles for years but finally said he doesn't like the way people perceive you when driving one. Now drives a Subaru.

My grandfather was a very successful self-made entrepreneur. He always commented that the people trying to look rich were frequently the exact opposite. He started out with three partners, and eventually bought each of them out as they over-extended financially. Cars, houses, and expensive stuff don't require wealth, only a good line of credit.

I have a very old 4" x 4", 30 page Book of Wisdom on my coffee table.
One page says,...
"Buy the biggest house you can afford and the least expensive car that you're comfortable with."
.

Haha Philly, my particular etiquette post wasn't really directed at you, it was just that the general theme of the thread reminded me of that conversation and it was too good of a line not to share, once I remembered it.

I hope you stick around, this place is fun and I'm thinking you'd be a good addition.

dewolf 09-13-2015 02:25 PM

Hey Philly, it's all good mate. I copped the same many years ago after posting something and then I had the "well what Porsche do you own anyway" thing. I posted a pic of my 930 and all was well.

Don Ro 09-13-2015 03:22 PM

I no longer own a Porsche.
Ain't been kicked out.....yet.
I just now/then send some Pelicans free stuff. :p

So he likes cars a lot and the eight pcars.
I could easily name 18 cars I would own in a heartbeat if only it were a viable option. Sadly it is not though.
And the Bentley is a really great daily driver. It's pictured in the background of his ad here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/882415-time-capsule-951-a.html House looks semi-modest.

Name dropping aside and a quirky first post in this forum, all his cars would not add up to near the price of some of your homes out there in the PNW and NY.
Cuban cigars, scotch, watches, vacations, wives and kids all add up.
Each to their own with what other people choose to do with their money.

Welcome to the forum philly.

I agree with Wayne. I haven't posted in this thread until now because frankly I didn't know what to say, given some of the "prickish' behaviour" (reference Porcupine/Porsche owner joke).

Cheers and welcome, Philly.....

The guy has eight(8) Porsches.
He likes cars in general and has a huge collection.

Wayne pays for a website that sells car parts, and allows us members to spout off ad nauseum and post all sorts of pictures.
All for free.

What is the major malfunction here?

Z-man 09-14-2015 04:06 PM

Um - yeah - I was out of line in my comments here - got carried away with the pile on the rabbit mentality.

My apologies to Philly and to Pelican for my lapse in judgement as well as my inappropriate comments.

Moderators are not immune to being a poopyhead...

Wow... a lot of tales between legs. This is the www and a thick skin is required. If Philly wants to participate, that's his call. I don't think all the sucking up is really necessary. Sheesh. This is OT. None of the responses were any worse than you'd see on almost any BBS. My opinion, of course.
