There is nothing wrong with having really nice stuff. IMO, your entrance was either: a poser trying to be someone they are not (we have had those here), is a troll looking for attention, or simply a braggart. You don't walk into a room of strangers and introduce yourself by saying "my name is ___ and I own all this expensive stuff..." At best you have no class. Even the mod said as much.

I just think that for someone claiming to be your age you would have more discretion and social grace. Your continued I-will-flaunt-the-stuff-I-own-in-your-face posts only reinforces my original observations. If your original intentions were otherwise, you would have backed down from this continued stance.

The cars you say you own are very nice. I'm impressed by the cars. Money doesn't replace class. You sir, may have lots of money but that's about it. Being wealthy gives a person the chance to genuinely express who they really are. In some cases, wealth only magnifies the fact that the person is a jerk.

If you wanted attention then you've got it. If you want respect from the people on this board then that should be earned by whomever you desire respect from. I imagine you could care less if you have my respect. I'm just calling them like I see them. Others have gotten the same first impressions. What you do with it is up to you.

Mod's; can we change the thread tile to: Wow... I love my ebay car hustler.

Or, alternately: Wow... I love my ellipses... But- just -like- my dashes.

A few weeks ago I was talking to someone who manages money, but only for people with high wealth. Hundreds of millions. Anyway, we were talking cars (what else) and I asked him about Voisin (he's French) and he starts telling me about his unnamed client who owns a huge collection of them. He says the guy is super down to earth, wears old clothes, never flashy. Super nice guy etc etc. The money manager's wife smiles and says, "Money talks, but real wealth whispers."

Something to ponder.

~~~~~~
"Money talks, but real wealth whispers." - I like that one.
About 20 years ago I read that the #1 vehicle that wealthy developers preferred was the Ford Bronco V8.
The article was about how the truly wealthy were not into openly flaunting their success.
I suppose the operative word is - openly.
And I'm selling a couple of cars In my collection to reconcile the cost ...and while I was posting a couple of the cars I'm selling on ebay to this site to garner more interest I thought I reach out to the community and see if others were as compelled by the W12 bentley as I am ... WFT ...why are you guys taking shots at me :(.
I kinda expect that when I went to a new Porsche site a while back, that was in French. You could tell they didn't like that I spoke English and not French. Got beat up pretty bad.
Thanks for the tips on humility guys ... I often wonder how to handle myself with Grace and class ... And when I do I usually turn to car collecting forums to garner the answers ... Does anybody wanna hear about how my two cars for sale are doing? One sold for a lot of money and the other isn't gaining as much interest as I thought it would ... Which will probably result in me keeping it in the collection and selling other cars to offset the bentley's costs ... Do you wonder what fine cars might be coming outa my collection imminently ?! That's what real car guys would wanna know about ... They would be chomping at the bit ... But please feel free to be unconcerned about what cool cars might become avail and stay focused on advising me on social etiquette ... And BTW Im pretty sure wealth doesn't necessarily talk or whisper ... And never is impressed with pithy trite sayings ...
There was a guy on another forum I frequent who was dubbed the "Shiek". He professed to have family money and owned/managed a bunch of gas stations. He had a humongous collection of exotic cars and even had several big cats in cages on his expansive property. I believe he kept the ruse going for well over a year before someone finally ratted him out for being a fake and making all of it up. Probably some old naked fat guy typing away on his gaming computer. I sense that we may have the same thing here, gentlemen.
Trust me. Not the case here. Lots of internet crumbs that tie name, address, company, profession, cars, car clubs, etc., all back to the same guy.
philly1963 09-12-2015 11:06 PM
... I am kinda fat ... And I'm naked sometimes ... Like right before during and after I shower ...
Gotta say I've been in a GT and that engine is friggin brilliant. Sure it's not overly fast but the way the power is delivered is amazing. They just never seem to run out of puff. And it is pulling a real lard ass.
Chocaholic 09-13-2015 03:11 AM
Perhaps your dismay is the result of seeking "car-guy" feedback in an "off-topic" forum. Cars aren't the only focus here. Yes, I'd say most/all are enthusiasts, but "off-topic" includes people and opinions from many perspectives, mostly unrelated to cars specifically.
There are many here that easily equal/exceed your financial position. But you'd never know it. That's why they fit in and have "earned" the respect of the board for who they are, rather than for what they have. My thoughts.
That is a fantastic saying.
My grandfather was a very successful self-made entrepreneur. He always commented that the people trying to look rich were frequently the exact opposite. He started out with three partners, and eventually bought each of them out as they over-extended financially. Cars, houses, and expensive stuff don't require wealth, only a good line of credit.
Macroni 09-13-2015 03:49 AM
I love Continental GTs…. would love to own one and frequently look at them. I think the 12 cylinder 04 thru 08 cars are tremendous values especially considering the market place for air cooled 911s. All wheel drive /200mph, four bucket coupe….. yikes. I actually find they can be understated when they are properly outfitted.
Second conversation is surprising to me. I did not read his initial post as bragging I read it as putting his Bentley into perspective to his collection. I am again surprised at the thin skinned and attacking nature of the posts. Crickets we are on a friendly website with what is normally a collection of welcoming and down right caring individuals. This is OT, off topic and if this conversation does not qualify as off topic I do not know what does.
Tell us about your mother, philly.
I'd love to own the Fiat 850. Always been one of my favorites.
Relax.
Just post a pic of your wife's cans or a girl on a roof. Smooth sailing from there.
Really, relax. I'm close by, I'll vouch for ya!
billybek 09-13-2015 06:51 AM
I think you should stick around.
You have paid your dues in spades with this thread! :)
Should be kind of smooth sailing from here!
