New Ford Focus

I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was in need of a new DD after returning the Volt. I went for the Focus ST, and could not be happier. With the ST, Ford provides a day on the track at Miller Motorsports Park with the Ford Racing School, as well as a welcome dinner at Ken Block's Hoonigan HQ. Last Focus I bought, I got a coffee mug, this far surpassed that.

Cool!! They seem to be great cars! Rode in a regular focus with a DCT and thought it alone was really nice.

Did you consider the new Focus RS?

The ST is an awesome car! Enjoy it! And yes I would have had a serious look at the RS. That looks like it's going to be tons of fun too.

The RS isn't really on my radar. I went in looking at the regular Focus since I just needed it to get back and forth to work, but I upped it to the ST. Shopping the local Ford dealer and looking at 10k markups on the GT's, I can only imagine what the markup on the RS would be. I got this for a little over half of what the MSRP on an RS is going to allegedly be. Pretty solid performance bargain.

A focus could be on my future list for a commuter, what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

I see a lot of good reviews about the Focus, but I just can't get excited by it. I had a Focus back in the early '00s as my DD beater, and it was a complete POS in every way imaginable.

I played with a new ST on the freeway with my Cayman S. They seemed pretty well matched, I was quite impressed.

My folks were getting around 30 out of theirs before they sold it. Not sure what Matt is getting out of it now...

And the Focus ST is a totally different animal from the cars of the early 2000's. You really have to go drive one.

My freind has a White ST as a grocery getter. It rips! It has the 3 qualities I like. It's quick, handles great, and has great brakes. Another nice feature is it cruises below the radar as a sports car, so the cops don't pay much attention to it. I would like to check out the Fiesta ST too, as I've heard nothing but good reviews. I think the WRC Rally experience Ford gained helped them dial it in. I too had a 2000 Ford Focus sedan and it was a decent car but lacked a stiffer suspension and need about 100 more h.p.. Far from the days of the garbage Fords of the 70's.

Just under 26mpg. To be fair though, I'm into the boost quite a bit

1/2 the RS MSRP?

I speced out an ST that was quoted at over $31K. Had 2nd thoughts on that price. Figured for an extra $5K, you get AWD and a few extra goodies! Already lined up an RS test drive for, hopefully, April.

Did you check on rebates? My dad got out the door with an ST3 in 2013 for around 26k...

Not really, I think I really, really want to justify an RS, but an ST at $5K less than that quote would do nicely. My 03 Vibe GT has about 180 Hp, 150 (?) ft-lbs and does the job well. 345-350 Hp, 345-350 ft-lbs is just a ticket (or a whole string of them!) waiting to happen. Yeah, the ST is probably the better car for me.
