What's the percentage of smokers who get lung cancer, .20 percent or something like that? There's many much worse things out there...

Smoking is bad, we get that. I often kick myself for lighting up that first one. Like others here, I've tried just about every method to quit (going back to cessation classes/Chantix again shortly), but vaping is the closest that has worked for me. BUT since smoking/vaping is my ONLY bad habit, I don't think I'm too terrible of a person, and it hasn't affected my health, yet. Recently had a lung function test done on me, and they're working better than most 18-year olds still, so

Thuys dad still acted like a 20 yr old until that cough just wouldn't go away last year.... Terminal lung cancer that had spread to his spine. He's on a chemo pill and has a few more years, but life sure isn't as good as it was for him. Just because it hasn't happened to you yet, doesn't mean it won't.

Hence the "yet." I'm aware of the risks, but also aware that in relation to many other activities (or non-activities like obesity), the risks are statistically slim.

Have just read on Facebook that vaping can coat the lungs with an oily residue. In this case a 67 yo man passed away as he could not breath anymore. My father passed away in 1967 aged 52 from cancer. He was a heavy smoker. Cancer was right through him. I was 21 at the time.

Don't' believe the negative BS about Vaping. It's about revenue and the hatred of anything related to tobacco consumption...

And no reputable manufacturer of Vaping liquid would use anything oil based in their liquid.

Nicotine is closely related to Vitamin B and your body deals with it in a similar way. Check it out if you don't believe me.

Vaping is benign. It does not compare to smoking tobacco. It's about as harmful as drinking coffee.
There's lots of good info out there if you look for it.

And for the record.... About 50% of long term tobacco users will die from a smoking related illness.
Of the remaining 50% about 80% of those will have their health compromised in some way from smoking.

Its not even a Crap shoot. Yoiu get better odds gambling in a Casino.

i ask because i dont smoke.

isnt Vaping just a substitute for smoking? it's still bad for you, isnt it? just not as bad? i dont understand.

my coworker quit smoking..now he does smoke-less tabacco..talking to him is painful, he ALWAYS has a wad of chewing tobacco in his mouth. maybe the time-off for his lungs to heal is a good thing, but his gums are taking a BEATING. i can find him on a jobsite by following the spit marks.

I started smoking when I was 15 and was up to a pack-a-day when I was 24. I quit (cold turkey) when I was 25. I had previously tried to quit many times but only made it a few hours so I know how tough it is to quit. I was lucky to have a few days off and decided I would quit on my days off....

I threw away all smokes, ashtrays, matches, etc.. and then slept for 3 days. Back then, I knew I would not go to the store to buy smokes without blow drying my hair so I made sure I didn't take a shower and every time I started getting cravings I went back to bed. After 3 days I couldn't believe I had made it that far. On my way to work on day 4 I pulled into a 7-11 to buy a pack of emergency smokes but I left without smokes and I've been smoke free ever since (about 30 years!).

I'm totally opposed to the new vaping industry because they are going to suck the current generation in and we will eventually have a whole population that is hooked (and dying).

FYI, I have a friend that just quit using Chantex. He told me that this drug really worked and a few times we got to the store and forgot why he was there. He eventually just forgot to smoke.

The primary ingredients in vaping juices are poly and vegetable glycol.

They make up 90% of the product.

It's in the foods you eat and most of the cosmetic products that you use.

It's also used as an antibacterial in the HVAC systems of large buildings including hospitals.

You are surrounded by the stuff, ingesting, absorbing, and inhaling every day.

The rest of the content is pharma grade nicotine and flavorings.

The percentage of flavoring is hard to pin down as different flavors require different concentrations, as low as 3% for tobacco flavors but figure 10% on average.

The flavors would be the big unknown in terms of toxicity.

The advice there is buy American made juice and not the cheap Chinese crap, those people can't even make dog food that is safe to consume.

Vash,

That is a great question and one many people are trying to answer; at the end of my post is a link from The Guardian newspaper in the UK.

Vaping is a little like eating, you can buy oranges from a guy at a freeway exit or you can get the organic ones from Whole Foods; you pays your money, you makes your choice.

Until quite recently (last 18 months) most over the counter E liquid or juice came from China. Not to impugn anyone there but the Chinese track record on baby formula, drywall, pet food and probably e juice is frankly, terrible.

If you are smart and care about what you put in your body you can buy all natural or organic e juice made in a lab by a Stamford grad in a white coat. Or you can go online and buy a plastic bottle full of something made in that morning in a bucket.

As with anything, there are extremes and one would be wise to educate oneself before ingesting anything that may do more harm than good. The following article comes from The United Kingdom, before we turn this into a debate as to relative merits of The National Health system in The UK, please bear in mind I grew up in The UK, both kids were born there and I find my medical experiences there as good, or better, than those I have had here in US.

I've been vaping for 4 years now.

Back then finding supplies was not as easy as stopping at a 7-11 like you can do today.

A lot of it was mail order.

One of the first things I picked up on was Chinese juice and no one had to tell me to avoid it.

But finding US made product was not an issue at all.

Does not work for everyone.

I tried it, did nothing but make me roid rage angry 24/7 and give me very vivid f'd up dreams.

Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night and being scared to roll over and look at your wife because you are not sure if you hacked her up in a dream or for real.

This is a fairly common reaction to vaping and comes from a source painfully aware how difficult it is to quit smoking; that somehow vaping is a gateway to cigarette smoking for teenagers.

Let me point out that vaping in the long run (30 days or more) is INFINITELY cheaper than buying a pack of cigarettes, which here in LA are now $8.00 a pack. Teenagers are nothing if not frugal, so economically, why would they move up to smoking from vaping.

Vaping is for the most part, odorless, if mom and dad are against the kids smoking and give a sniff test at home, smoking is a FAIL. This is probably also true at school and on the job.

Smoking is establishment, Vaping is indie and perceived as “cool”, cool for teenagers whips uncool every which way.

One aspect that is almost never reported is that e juice comes in zero nicotine levels, many teens opt for this rather than addict themselves to something that has given their parent’s generation so much grief.

So if it costs more to look less cool, just who is going to get sucked in by vaping?
