Before I went to see it, I made a point to watch Jedi to refresh my memory a little and get in the mood. Have to say, I was surprised how cheesy the first quarter/half of Jedi was compared to what I've had in my memory all these years. The latter scenes, particularly the ones with Luke, Vader and the Emperor were great and still hold up, but I think many of us incorrectly put the originals high on some cinematic pedestal that cannot be equaled.

With that thinking, I thought the new one was very entertaining for what it is-just like the originals, a big budget sci-fi flick with some good scenes and some so so scenes....not some epic piece of cinema. If I have to criticize, they should have left the unveiling of Kylo's face and his lineage to the scene on the catwalk with Solo (one of the many scenes I enjoyed for their cinematography). After he took his mask off to Rey all I kept thinking was "I'm Vinnie Barbarino dressed up for Halloween Mr. Kotta". To have the gollum hologram thingy reveal who pops was didn't have the effect on me that the news could have.

Saw it this weekend, was unimpressed. Wife totally loved it but I actually dozed off a couple times. Seemed too...drawn out, like the whole movie was nothing more than setting the scene for the 2nd (and 3rd) installments. The new "Vader" seemed like a pussy, too. I was disappointed because I LOVE Star Wars.

i think you nailed it. i'm glad i saw it. it was good, but didnt live up to they hype i worked it up to be in my head.

the story-line was kinda weak. more daddy issues. the young actress was kinda cool, and hot.

i heard the next movie goes back in time and covers the story of the team that stole the plans for the deathstar?

There are other tie-in movies and I think that is where the back in history thing comes into play. Han Solo in his early years as well.

I never read to much or watch the trailers but had high hopes that it would be better since Lucas wasn't at the controls. It was better in the same way blood pudding is better than mutton.

Our daughter visited over the holiday and we went out for a movie... they offered me Star Wars and I opted for Mockingjay (they know I was a Star Wars fan but I know daughter is a Hunger Games fan). Ladies were ticked that in Mockingjay there were so many battle scenes and the ending was too predictable.

Reading these comments posted here looks like the new Star Wars will be viewed at home as a rental, as the title to this thread says "I'm over it".

On a lighter note we viewed the Harry Potter DVD's over her visit, funny to see how special effects have advanced over the years.

You guys. Think about it. The movie has breached the summit of merchandizing. It's a damn good couple-hour testament to capitalism.

I'm gonna see it again with my daughter who is a muckity-muck in the 501st Legion and contracts to create authentic Star Wars costumes. Knows everything about the whole damn Star Wars thing.

Ask her why Leia has no Jedi skilz.

I just knew I should keep my mouth shut, vash. I will if I think of it. Is Leia supposed to have Jedi skilz?

I told my daughter if I ever saw the new babe, Rae(?) anywhere, anytime, in any room I would march right up to her and ask her to marry me and bear my children. All of a sudden, I'm thinking Leia is soooo 70's.

Of course not! She's a girl!
