Star Wars - I'm over it
The movie isn't even out yet and I'm already sick and tired of seeing merchandise tie-ins

You better get thicker skin. The FLOOD of toys will be EVERYWHERE after Christmas.

I saw the original back in 1977 but never got into it like some. My kids couldn't care less about SW. |

Disney at its finest. They'll beat it to death, give it CPR and resuscitate it, then beat it to death again, then put it on life support only to beat it to death again. I like Disney like anyone else but their marketing (and re-marketing, and re-re-marketing...) of things is utterly shameless. It takes "obnoxious" to a whole new level.
I love Star Wars and I'm cautiously optimistic that JJ ("jar jar", puke) Abrams didn't screw this one up again. I doubt it'll live up to my memories of the original (or "Empire" or "Jedi") as a kid but it should be good fun. I hope. Dear lord please no frikkin Jar-Jars or mitichlorians or wooden dialog or other insufferable crap this time. Please. Don't kill my dreams. Again. Please. |

I'd heard that merchandising alone could total nine billion dollars.

Let's not forget that it was George Lucas who took Disney's money. He could have politely refused (or not wooed Disney in the first place--I don't know how the deal was born). Star Wars, as the story goes, was Lucas' baby, his life's project and after all those years he sold it to corporate suits. He must not have felt that strongly about it or perhaps cashing-in was his true dream all along. |

$4.05 BILLION is a lot of reasons to sell out....

"Bleep beep twooeeer bleep". You'll have to study up on the language. (But be warned that sometimes the vehicle will have a mind of it's own.) Plus the 2500 series will be luxuriously accentuated with authentic X-wing racing stripes and rich corinthian leather from only the best tauntauns. |
Disney has already gone after a blogger that posted a picture of an action figure they purchased at WalMart.

no Star Wars interest here. none.
the cgi thing doesn't do it for me. |

wait does that 9 billion mean incremental sales due to SW somehow? I can image than many people would buy those oranges weather or not they were branded.
Disney should have a contest with Ferrari on brand whoring..... |
