I couldn't agree more. I went to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Vegas last September.
I walked for hours just checking out everything there. It's probably a third of the size of the Scottsdale auction.
Maybe next year I'll head to Scottsdale.

I can not relate to the low mile cars. Collectors not drivers are different kind of enthusiasts... not necessarily bad in my opinion but just strange. Why not put some miles on your '06 Ford GT? It's begging to be driven.

We have a local guy that comes to Cars & Coffee regularly in his GT, it is covered in stickers from the national gatherings that he has driven it to. Awesome to see those cars actually enjoyed.

I would have a really hard time buying a car at BJ. Can you imagine spending six figures for a car that you have never even driven, and very likely not even heard run? A local collector got burned on a 1969 Camaro from BJ, cosmetics were pretty but everything else was crap. It was a "fresh restoration" that was obviously designed to bring top dollar there, with minimal investment.

The gt is a modular v8. Sure, some special bits are inside the engine but it's far more maintenance friendly than say a 12cyl Ferrari that costs a king's ransom for a rebuild. A perfect super car for high miles if there ever was one, the gt.

I don't think it's the auction houses fault that the vehicles sold on their block might be misrepresented by the sellers. Barrett-Jackson isn't the one selling anything.

The format isn't conducive to a good inspection. Would you buy a car from a private party without driving it or hearing it run? It is what it is, but I certainly wouldn't gamble my money like that.

I agree on that. I didn't know that no inspection, or proof of function was allowed before bidding on a lot.

I wouldn't say that misrepresentation of lots by the sellers are necessarily the fault of Barrett-Jackson though, but denying buyers a reasonable effort to inspect what they're buying is a problem. I certainly wouldn't put money on the barrel if I couldn't sample the goods within.

Don't put your words in my posts.

Barrett-Jackson should hold sellers to a higher standard of truth in advertising, and allow buyers to check out what they're buying. Knowing now that it wasn't allowed, I believe that it should be in order to prevent fraud. However, Barrett-Jackson didn't restore, or otherwise own the cars sold at their auctions, so are they on the hook for how the cars sold are described? I thought that description, and provinence was done by the sellers of vehicles, but I actually am not sure who comes up with these descriptions.

I attended a few years ago, but remember that all the cars for auction are outside or under tents for inspection? If you are determined to buy a particular car, you would probably know something about that type of car, and what to look for during your inspection. Unless you are, as mentioned, a bloated old rich guy that can't bend over to tie your shoes, much less lay on the ground and inspect an under-carriage.

I have a launch year Cayman S it must be worth $150k....
