At this auction, as in others, you can look over, under, inside, outside before you buy or bid on any car. The sellers are usually around and in my travels, they are willing to go over the car with you. BJ does not own these cars for the most part, so condition is up to the seller. On commissions, BJ is 10/10%, others are 5/10, 7/7, or others. Now if you get there at 6pm and the nuts in your head lead your brain, or your wife's heart, you're screwed. Get someone to tie your shoes.

Skipped the BJ auction this year and went to Russo Steele....lots of P cars there...especially 930's.
It appears many of the 930 crowd just couldn't hold back anymore.
Many 356 variants too from speedster's to later SC's. I counted 6 (I think) longhood 911 S's.
No idea how they bid out tho......
BJ is more of a fun time, carney affair....and you'd be nuts to buy there honestly.

Yup, just the eye-candy alone, (not the cars, snort), is worth the price of admission~!

The super-nice 1956 23-window only fetched $90k - interesting

There were some cars sold on Sunday that I think would have gotten better money if they'd been sold on Saturday.

I really question some of the cars taken to BJ. If you have the one Porsche in a crowd of muscle cars, you gotta think that the majority of buyers probably aren't there for the Porsche. Other auctions seem like they are more Euro-centric.

That's probably true Matt.
What I found interesting is how well the restomods did. There were a lot of them this year and they're starting to restomod cars you normally wouldn't see restored to stock. I think the demographic may be changing to guys who would like to have an old car but aren't willing to put up with the maintenance, reliability issues of owning one.
Who wouldn't want a '60's vette that has a late model drivetrain/brakes under it, but still has the style of an original?

Does it still drive like a truck?

I like watching for a little while, pretty impressive to see so many cars but after ~15min I get bored. I'm glad there isnt a version with just euro cars, I would be on the couch all weekend.

The point that MOST people don't get is, those high dollar cars are usually in PERFECT condition!

People see a challenger TA selling for $80k and say, "hey my rusty old dodge dart must be worth as much as that ..." and they are Wrong.

To me it appears to be a bunch of very wealthy and very clever speculators who know they are paying a great deal more than what the car is worth, but fully expect the next fool to pay even more.

When they were buying 930s for $80k, people said they were crazy.
now they're selling 930s for $250k.

Still crazy?

BTW you can look the car over, hear it run, talk to the seller, talk to the mechanic, study books and books of receipts.
if you can't tell what a car is about after all that you should be buying a prius instead.

In most cases, no, it doesn't, because they've updated the chassis too so it has coilovers at all four corners. The announcers were saying they go, stop and handle just like a modern day car.

I hope so. For me a big part of vintage cars/trucks is the vintage driving experience. I don't see the point of driving around in a '65 Vette if it drives like a new Chevy Cruze - unless the point is posing in comfort. If you want your car to drive like a new car, get a new car.

I agree. I also noticed if they tried selling a showcase car (The Boyd Coddington car) comes to mind. It stalled at around $300,000. Then someone (usually Steve Davis) says this car should bring $1,000,000 all day long. Back to bidding and they maybe got $20,000 more.

I always wanted an old vette, until I drove one. Wow does it look great but my old 911 was light years ahead in ergo, handling, brakes... my opinions only, not trying to rain on anyone parade. Sort of like an SL, looked great, mfi sounded good but wasnt a sports car. Again, different strokes.

As a casual fan of most cars I saw on Barrett Jackson it was interesting but not my thing. I'm one of those weird guys that likes old Mini's, Porsche's, MG's, TVR's....

Yes but $177k for a non special Trans Am?... It's not like Burt and Sally made a kid in the back seat
