Here's how I proposed to Mrs. Oh Haha, my second wife:

Took her to the restaurant we dined at on our first date a year earlier.

When we finished eating I got down on my knee and asked her with the ring in hand.

We got applause from the folks around us but I didn't pay attention as I was looking at my soon to be wife.

This doesn't answer your question but thought I would share it anyway.

Good luck with whatever you do.

If she had said NO would you have made her pay for her own meal

Probably not and I honestly didn't know if she would say yes. I only knew that I wanted to marry her but I knew that after our second date.

Seriously, look her in the eye and tell her why you want to marry her. Speak from the heart and tell her about her. Be a man in love and explain why.

If you also get the ring right, buckle up.
You beat me to it Paul.

Myself - I always strung things out till they asked me........

Haha - bad idea. What if she wakes up when you mess with her hand? She will be half awake in the middle of the night, lights off and you sitting on her side. Then you will have to wing it?

That said, nothing wrong with doing it in private. You would not get me to kneel around in an restaurant either but i.e. on your favorite hike, when you get to the top of the mountain etc.

I am amazed how quickly you guys jump back in after a divorce. If I ever get a divorce, I will have to be unconscious too, to be engaged!

By the way, my latest engagement was at Costco - believe it or not.
My g/f and I often go to Costco together (she likes it that way cuz I usually buy her stuff) and she would always meander over to the rings...with me in tow.
She knew exactly the one that impressed her and why.
One evening I just said, "Well, let's get that one."
I thought she would wet her pants.
I'll never forget the thrilling look on her face. We came back to my place and she couldn't stop looking at it and was speaking in tongues.
She called everyone she knew...and I took iPhone photos of it on her finger and she texted everyone back w/photos.
.
It really was a wonderful time.
.
.
Note: I'm impressed at the quality of diamonds at Costco.
The one she liked and I bought was appraised for 40% more than it cost.

Breakfast in bed - with the ring on the tray (in the box so it doesn't get lost - don't put it in the food that's just stupid).

Followed by or proceeded by a good "rogering"!

Get two small boxes of crackerjacks. Put the ring in one and seal it back up. After dinner say hey, I saw some crackerjacks today and haven't had a box of these in years! Become totally worthless on the couch enjoying your box of crackerjacks and see if she goes for the other box.

Whatever you do make sure that you don't do it the same way as the FIRST one!

That was about the time I found this place
Sometimes you lose yer nuts in a flower shop, sometimes they get sold with a car....
But evidently they grow back and life is grand afterwards

I reckon the deed is done by now, but methinks the OP should keep it simple...

I did a hot air balloon ride. She had no choice. That was 22 years ago.

Keeping up on that theme - Don Ro, we assume that Costco ring was at least 2 carats?
