Stay safe, Florida pelicans! I'm relieved to see that my son and granddaughter in Coral Springs will miss most of this one.

I lived in Melbourne, FL for several years in the 1990s and dodged Hugo and Andrew. Keep in mind Andrew was a Cat 4 when it hit. This one will likely be slightly stronger and more persistent. I drove through what was left of Homestead in early 1993 a few months after Andrew and it was insane. The devastation was so complete it's almost indescribable. They'd run bulldozers through the rubble so there was a street grid but other than that - nothing but piles of what used to be homes and people's lives for blocks and blocks. Not a sound. Deathly quiet and nobody around. Weird, post-apocalyptic stuff.
This is no joke. Yes the space coast is a lot better built and has FAR better infrastructure than the trailer parks and gutter homes down in Homestead but still... This is going to be a bad deal. Stay safe. I'd leave and head inland or north for a few days. Last edited by Porsche-O-Phile; 10-06-2016 at 01:33 PM.. |

Still at home. Mrs Rocket is wigging out about leaving.
I think we'll be OK and want to experience it. |

Tonight I'm back home but tomorrow I'll be sleeping over at the hospital. We sandbagged nearly every first floor door as well as the ramp down to the loading dock. The loading dock is actually below the water level of the river.
The tip of the arrow is my hospital. Great place to build a hospital. ![]()

Wow, I've been in that area a lot in the past visiting the CSX building. Do you expect the St. John's to rise that much? |

CSX is right across the river from us. Storm surge is now predicted to be 6-9 feet.

I'm not too optimistic about the place on HHI faring well. Too many trees, too much rain and wind for too long. I hope I am wrong.
