Racerbvd, I'd do the same as you. Chill out and have a good cigar. This thing will pass with little damage to all the areas. No big deal to get bent out of shape.

the media completely overhyped this storm.....
in Orlando we get worse storms everyday in the summer .....
my friend in Jensen Beach was prepared for the worse.....he only lost power...no evidence of any damage....he said Wilma was ten times worse.......the eye was 100 miles of the coast from him and was only seeing 80mph sustained winds......

Yep...the media was praying for disaster. Now they're showing Haiti pics every 10 mins. Big miss again. Anyone south of Daytona who evacuated is probably thinking they've been duped again. Good likelihood this will be nothing more than a bit of heavy rain with some wind, or less. Let's hope so.

At least they're over hyping something besides the election for a change.

I have family in Vero Beach. They are fine. They lost power at about 2am. Looks like the worst has passed for them.

Having lived through many hurricanes, its ALWAYS better to be over prepared. So if the storm turns out to be not as bad as it could be, don't look at the situation as being duped , but rather being thankful that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I saw a local news guy reporting from St Augustine. He found a tree branch laying in a parking lot and was acting as if the world was coming to an end.

Weather Channel and others keep reporting the storm has 120mph winds. Which is true BUT the winds on the beachs are running 60 with gusts to 80.

I think it was luck more than hype. An eyesall replacement cycle started late yesterday that dropped the wind speeds by about 15-20 knots. The minimum central pressure is still pretty low and there's going to be an awful lot of rain / storm surge yet to come.

Yes, there was some hype but unfortunately the next time - because this didn't measure up to expectations - more people will ignore the warnings.

Spoke to our youngest son in Orlando about an hour ago he said the worst was over for them. Said it rained but not much damage which is good .

My MIL and wife's sister are in John's Island, SC. the BIL is with you in Mt. Pleasant. Nobody's leaving. Just picked up water, flashlight batteries, and some canned food.

Like others have said...The press blows everything from Ebola to cold snaps WAY out of proportion.

Here in Viera, north of Melbourne on the mainland <1 mile from the Indian River. Never lost power here (Brevard County) east of 95. Newer area, all the lines underground and those that aren't were newly installed on the concrete poles. No home damage, including the screen enclosure. Drained the pool a foot and it has increased an inch or 2 and we are now on the backside of this with winds coming from the SSW, big scary gusts still, no rain right now.

Had "cane" shutters on all except a patio door, glad we did. Garage doors held up, pcar is safe.

Dodged a bullet as eye passed about 40 miles offshore. I'm sure beachside is fuched up.

Sick of the hype and the theatrics with these weather folks and newscasters. I think they approach this as some kind of a show.

Hope everyone here is safe and as lucky as we were.

Bell, that's so true. I've had to drain water from the pool twice in one day from an afternoon t-strm, just a week and a half ago. **** I have to add a foot of water back after this local "major flooding event" after draining it down.

The surge scares me more than tree damage. My house is on the water. Even if you are inland on HHI a big surge will reach you.

Still alive in Jax, too choppy to surf, plus intercostal bridges are closed.
River not too high yet, but some docks already suffering.

Someone lost part of their dock.
