There's a decent amount of HHI news/info here at the IP site...

Local News | IslandPacket.com & The Island Packet

Sea Pines, too...

Matthew.............

My sister and family live just west of Myrtle Beach, SC. They have not had power for a couple of days and will likely be out for a few more. Other than losing the top of a maple tree and the chimney cap, I don't think they had any other damage. Meanwhile, she is using a gas grill to cook on and is learning some good Girl Scout ways to make do.

Where I live in central south Georgia, the worst of the storm only got as far west as I75. We didn't even have any rain, just a little wind. We have had a fairly large number of storm refugees here, being taken care of by several shelters set up by local churches and the Red Cross.

We got smoked with rain here in central NC...power off until the 16th (estimated), schools closed, genny running half the house, so we're cool.

To my understanding, the south end of HHI got it worst but like HHI944 said the whole island looks like a major mess. We have received pictures of our house that is still fine. One tree down in front yard but didn't hit any thing. All the pictures that I've gotten do not look good. Mayor says their shooting for Tuesday to make the island accessible...could still be no water or power at that time. We're waiting for the plantation to give the ok.--Dave

Wow, you guys on the coast in SC and NC really got hammered and I read about the major fire that broke out in Cherry Grove SC.

My co-worker in Nashville NC luckily lives on the west side of the river sent me this photo.

Hearing and reading the same. Thanks for the info. I am planning on primitive camping when I finally get there.

Haven't heard of any serious injuries, but an incredible amount of property damage.

Yeah, Tuesday or Wednesday is what I am hearing too. I think Sea Pines did not fare well as it was built around so many of the original trees. My back roof actually had a notch in it to accommodate a Live Oak when the house was built back in 1973. Fortunately, that tree was removed 10 years ago. We still don;t realy know its condition, but it does not sound like the storm surge reached it. The backed up rainfall may be another story.

Unfortunately, my angst about a house turned into outright anguish on Friday night. My father was stricken with a heart attack and died while my younger brother and sister-in-law administered CPR to him until the ambulance arrived. My 9 year old niece was there, so that was really unfortunate. So needless to say, my priorities have shifted from the house on HHI to my family in the Clemson area. This is close to the worst week ever for me, though our family has rallied nicely to get through the initial shock.

That is horrible TDW, I'm so sorry.

HH Fire/Rescue has started releasing people from duty after 5 straight days and the NG is clearing things pretty fast. Town building inspectors are supposed to be going around the island today to get stats for federal aid. I would count on Wednesday being the earliest for limited access, there's still a lot of work to be done and a lot of flooding.

PRP got hit pretty bad from what I've seen. Lots of trees down, flooding and a washed out road.

SJ AFB housing is flooded out now :-(

Neuse River is supposed to crest at 31 feet by Friday that will exceed the 100 year flood plain.

Hurricane Floyd it crested at 28.5 feet.

I feel very lucky the only issue for my neighborhood is the lack of power.

I heard some of the areas will not see the crest of the river until Friday. It is still going up in some places. I guess they call SC coastal areas the low country for a reason.
