Apparently there is a rule in the books that anything in the last 5 laps gets investigated after the race- though I'm pretty sure I've seen decisions before the end.

Not saying Verstappen wasn't in the wrong, but Red Bull and Ferrari aren't exactly friendly with each other and Verstappen was being a good team player. If he was not penalized he'd finish 3rd, with Ricciardo probably 4th. If penalized after the race then Dan would probably be 3rd, having hopefully able to pass Vettel (he was gaining a second a lap anyway after the new tires). Ricciardo let Verstappen by earlier in the race, maybe this was Max's way of trying to pay it back?

Don't like penalty-free runoff areas. Hamilton did the same as Verstappen and got nothing (thought the VSC made the advantage moot).

Whether it's in the rule books or not, it's a sackless way of officiating. Their decision not to immediately make Verstappen give up the spot* changed the outcome of the race.

* Remeber the Laguna Seca ALMS race between the Corvette of Jan Magnussen and the Flying Lizard of Jorg Bergmeister? ALMS was able to swiftly instruct the Corvette to concede the pit-exit pass on the 911, thereby allowing both to race to the finish just 2 laps later. If the so-junior-league-that-they're-no-longer-in-business ALMS could figure that out within half-a-lap, you'd think the guys running the pinnacle of Motorsport could do the same.

I wonder how much this cost Ferrari (under the table)?

Jean Todt, the president of Formula 1’s governing body, has confirmed that there will be no disciplinary action taken against Sebastian Vettel.

The German went on an expletive rampage during the Mexican Grand Prix, but a string of apologies to Todt and FIA director Charlie Whiting seemed to have saved him from further punishment.

An FIA statement on Tuesday stated:

“Immediately following this incident, Sebastian Vettel spontaneously sought out Charlie Whiting to express his regrets for his behaviour in person.

“He then, again on his own initiative, sent letters to each of the FIA president Jean Todt and Charlie Whiting, in which he apologised profusely for his actions.

“He also indicated that he would likewise be contacting Max Verstappen and vowed that such an incident would never occur again.

“The FIA will always condemn the use of offensive language in motor sport – especially when directed at officials and/or fellow participants – and expects all participants in its championships to be respectful and mindful of the example they set for the public and the younger generation in particular.”

I'm fine with giving Vettel the benefit of the doubt. I've certainly said some things in the heat of the moment that I've immediately regretted. Verstappen was making multiple moves to block and blocking under braking.

Lately, radio transmissions have been the most interesting part of F1...
Vettel's moaning and F-bombs, Verstappen's whining, Alonso's cold dry humor, Ricciardo's funny ozzie stuff, and Kimi, always a favorite.....

Now onto fun predictions... ROS or HAM for the championship? I predict Rosberg either gets a DNF / blown engine or tranny, or gets punted by an out of control Verstappen, and loses the championship by a few points... but i hope not, because I enjoy "pouty Hamilton" interviews.

I don't understand all this "punted by Verstappen" stuff. Vettel's caused more turn 1 carnage than Verstappen (and whines way more- haven't heard Max whine, just be disobedient). Vettel's almost as bad as Kvyat- he crashed into Kimi 2 or 3 times now.
