I thought most places pump oil out of a 55 gal drum too (however there may be a gauge).

My Versa takes 3.5 quarts... PITA.

I DIY my oil changes, but the local lube place will do it for $20... seems like it cost more to DIY?

Versa's get overfilled all the time . The last one I did, ingested a lot of oil, it was all up in the intake tract. I drained almost 8 quarts out of that one

Too many horror stories about over torqued drain plugs, missing drain plugs, and forgetting to refill for me.

I don't think you save much money by DIY, but the counterpoint is I don't think you save much time by going to a greeseyloob.

20$ for full synth rotella 4 quarts at wally world on occasion though, so you can get a DIY synth change for ~25

I checked the oil in my wife's Volvo, and it was way over filled. I sucked out a quart and a half and check it and it was way low. I would get a different reading depending on which way I put the dipstick in. I put all the oil back in and will ask the service techs the next time we change the oil.

I know it cost me more money to change my own oil, but I'm certain it takes less time out of my schedule to do it myself- get home pull the plug, do a few odds and ends then remove/replace filter and plug, fill up with the amount I know works and go back to my life.

No waiting rooms and worrying that they either did it wrong, or put in cheap oil and charged me for synthetic and don't forget about hassling you to replace a whole bunch of other little stuff that really doesn't need replacing yet.

I have "oil change day" where I do all the cars and motorbikes. If I'm going to get my hands dirty I might as well get them properly dirty.

8 quarts! I wouldn't think the tiny engine (1.6 a mechanic called it a 'sewing machine') could hide that much oil.
