Whatever you do. What EVER you do, do not divorce that wife. Your butthole will look like the chunnel. From the French side.

They just called and said they'd take it back and get us a new one, but not for the price we paid. It'd be the full $1300 if we wanted a new fridge and they can't just get us a new door. I'll talk to Mrs. Lee tonight and see if she wants to call a PDR guy.

Word.
Is this a standalone Mom n Pop appliance store or Big Box? I'd be screaming bait n switch. At best I'd return it for full refund and take my money somewhere else even if it still cost me more.

That's a pretty deep dent. I'd find it difficult to believe the sticker would not have been torn in that spot or at least indicate there was damage underneath.
Do you recall if any other fridges had that sticker in the same place? Go to the store and check another of the same brand. I would be insisting they intentionally hid the damage and agreed to a good price to move it knowing one of two scenarios would ensue. You'd overlook the damage because you got a good deal or you'd be back spending $300.00 more. Time to get medieval.

We got it at Lowe's. So big box store. We shopped around, went to Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, another Lowe's and Home Depot. The first Lowe's couldn't deliver until later this week. Second Lowe's was near our house and could deliver next day (today). I really don't think the guy we spoke with was trying to hide anything. It just had a large, thick decal-like medallion stuck on it over this big dent. I think the other fridges had them too. We didn't think to peel it off to look underneath it. I just did it after it was set up in my kitchen today. They said we can return it. But I don't think we're gonna find the same deal and certainly not without a lot more driving and shopping around. Everything that caught our eye we looked up online and checked lots of other places. My folks are here through tomorrow night, but are on the road today. Maybe I'll send them down to the store tomorrow, as they're pretty good at haggling. But I have to work and can't go with them.

If they won't give you an new fridge buy a sheet of thin stainless the same size as the damaged piece and glue it on top. Get it to within 1/16" of the corner bend.
I did that with a dishwasher, it looked fine. Make sure they cut the stainless with the grain running the right direction. Can you take the handles off?

It works. Large retailers have people who monitor for "disgruntled" customers.

G'day!
|
Call Lowes' corporate customer service...not the local customer service.
That always pisses off the local branch but hey they had their chance. Corporate always looks at thing differently. A new skin or new door might be a possibility. Or let them handle things the way they see fit - maybe a further discount and you fix.

I'd be tempted to put a sticker on it and call it a day after you receive some satisfaction from Lowes, of course.
It's not that big of a blemish. How about a smiley face and every time you see it....it makes you smile.....

Let rip at it with the .45 and tell the insurance company it was a just a minor Christmas day dispute that got a little out of hand.

If you bought it and the dent was not disclosed, then it's on them. I would escalate until resolution because that's BS.

re: the pdr approach. internet quote: As the founder and former CEO of a stainless steel door company, I can tell you that very rarely is there a satisfactory dent removal method, and you will NEVER be able to restore the factory appearance. If the dent is 'sharp', there is no way to fully remove it, but if the dent is soft you may be able to improve the condition somewhat. The heavier gauge the material, the worse the problem. Most of the reason for this is that the act of denting, causes what is called 'work hardening' of the stainless steel, which renders the dent itself to be harder than the surrounding un-dented material, resulting in distortion of the area surrounding the dent when trying to pull the dent. Unfortunately, if the stainless is scratched or scored, the problem only becomes worse, as refinishing, or 're-graining' to a factory finish is impossible with a hand held machine even with experts.
The best solution, and maybe most cost effective, may be to buy a replacement panel from the manufacturer on products which have replaceable doors. |

If they were not aware of the defect beforehand why a good deal one day and not on another. If they realized they sold it too cheap nothing illegal about simply processing a return for credit. Still ****ty customer service no matter how you slice it.
