The car I linked here is Clean title 88k miles. 24000 bucks is HIGH for a 11 M3 with a salvage title.

Another opinion, not addressing the specific price of this car-there are flood cars and cars driven into a deep puddle-completely different beasts. IF the engine was redone-ie the bent rod replaced etc. by a competent shop, then I wouldn't be worried. I have a D23 A8 in the household w/ a salvage title due to a bent rod, rebuilt by a shop that does nothing but salvage exotics and lux cars, and its been fine for another 75k mi other than normal repairs unrelated.

My son's WRX had the engine replaced by his comp insurance after a similar incident, and he had an aftermarket intake. Ins. co fought about that, but he purchased the car unaware, so they let it slide.

Anyway, if the only water intrusion was in the intake manifold and it was fixed, it might well be a "bargain" IF priced to reflect same and work is documented and professional.

You'd be better off buying this at 17500 or 18000

Exactly. Just saw the invoice above and noticed it's a convertible, making the "valuation" even more optimistic.

OP: It wasn't a $40k car to begin with. The asking price of $24k is roughly $4k below book, not $15k below. Considering the salvage title, it would still be $6-$8k too high @ $24k, even if the seller had fixed everything.
You want to over-pay for a salvage flood car AND be on the hook for a new engine, plus potential electrical and biological (bacteria/mold) issues? Ok then.

Oh, and to answer your question: Yes, the car could run "OK" with a bent rod. It will eventually become an issue. Just a matter of time (ticking time bomb).
I'd have no reason to doubt the dealer's assessment either. Any time a car goes swimming, a bent rod via hydrolock is a possibility. Water doesn't compress very well, lol...

It's a joke, I realize you're relatively new.

The unfortunate part of the joke is that a Z06 probably will smoke a 930 most times.

The engine on they flooded m was the least of my worries. Those cars have electronic everything! The damn seat BOLSTERS are electric. Wayyy too many things to go wrong with that car after a flood.

This has to be a joke. A flood-damaged, salvage-title car for 24k? F that noise. Offer them 10k if you really want it, if they don't bite walk away.
