Thanks for helping. This started last fall. First time, I disconnected the battery and was good for several weeks. Then it happened again. Same deal only came back after a week. It eventually it got to the point where there was no resetting, just a problem all the time. Ive been driving all winter with the driver door fuse pulled and the security horn unplugged. We are having some crazy warm weather here so its time to have a look at the problem.

Interior lights work as they should. Windows too.

No aftermarket alarm.

No PCM

Door locks are programmed for auto lock. Always hated that.

No water event.

Put a trickle charger on the battery for a couple hours, then test it with the charger hooked up.

Thinking the problem is actually in the passenger door. The key locks the drivers door. Passenger door clicks but does not lock. Going in later today.

Really?

That is amazing. We have a new Macan on order so I will get to delve into the world of modern cars. All my experience is with 1980s cars. I have no OBDII experience at all.

So door locks are monitored by the computer. Amazing cars of today.

I took the panel off. everything is in tact No loose wires or linkage. If I can get the window motor off, I could replace the actuator. The window motor keeps me from getting the metal panel completely off. Going to search " window motor removal" .

Random thought:
Someone slammed the door with the handle up, door bounced back open, which slightly bent the push/pull rod between the actuator and lock mechanism.

Now when the system activates, the lock finger isn't pushed shut all the way.

Driver's door doesn't fully close so the computer opens them all.

You are on the right track. The passenger side is not locking and something is binding it or its just worn out. . Doors close tight. I doubt anyone slammed a door with the handle up. I need to find an article on the window regulator/motor removal so I can get in there better. A flashlight and a mirror only go so far.

SUCCESS !!!! I went back out and started looking closely at stuff. Peeled some wrapping off the lock harness and found some smashed wires. Had the door painted 1 1/2 years ago and I guess the body shop did it but it took a while for a wire to ground out. Only one had a bare spot. Anyway, I tied the harness out of harms way thinking, no way this is a fix. WAY!!!
Thanks to all who offered help and thanks to mother nature for giving me a 70* sunny day in February so I could do this.

Yes. I started looking at it closer as a result of this thread. To troubleshoot, you can send commands to the DME to raise or lower either window, lock or unlock, move the mirrors, etc. It's quite amazing to me. You should see all of the modules. The alarm module has more than a half dozen data streams.

When I was in school in the late 90's getting a master mechanic cert(functions better as tp), the top level teacher and head of department was talking about auto manufacturers going to 24V and using fiber optics daisy chains and modules instead of the wire strand bundles.
That hasn't happened yet, but they will always reinvent the wheel.

Congrats!

The wheel keeps evolving. In the 80s I was scared to death of computer cars. Had not idea where to start. No internet. No scan tools. Lots of misinformation. in magazines. Eventually I was datalogging and burning chips to reprogram the OBD1 cars. Now I am datalogging OBD 11 cars wireless. Who knows whats next ??
