Of course there have been studies on it, probably in the thousands. It's probably been discussed here about 100 times. The number of studies necessary to prove the theory was between zero and one. It's just one of those things that everyone knows, like being rich beats being poor, etc.

It's a thread designed to get responses, no matter how dull and repetitive. Sort of like the USA Today of OT threads. There is a name for that but it escapes me.

Agreed. Rich vs. Poor would be more revealing yet.

Size matters, for sure.

Appearance got Stephan Hawking to where he is today.

Some people should consider/question, is it the good looks that makes the person successful?(via all of the great breaks they get for being so unfairly good looking) Or.. is it that many of the more successful people have better DNA, which also produces better looking people? --keeping in mind that things like body symmetry are often what drives classic "good looks." And how much "good look" comes from smart upkeep? Anyone see Oprah w/o "hair & makeup"?

A week later they were back together. I asked him "what the hell Kevin - why are you with this @#$#?"

The word you're looking for is "click bait".

There are few things that can't be made interesting. If it's dull that might be your problem.

I think that's more an example of your friend Kevin being a moron.

Obi Wan said "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" but Yoda said "Do or do not. there is no try".

Both of them made an absolute statement.

I disagree on the DNA part. I know good looking successful people with heart problems, eye problems, joint problems, lung problems, etc.

There are many different physical problems and weakness's a good looking person can have; but not have the problem evident just in a picture.

If good looking as children --and given a rosy path-- then they are more likely to be spoiled and never develop any life skills. Which then begs the Q; how did their good looks help them there? --or did it hurt them?

hmmmm...

Bill Gates... Damn, if it weren't for his good looks...

Anyway... I know it's popular to dog on good looking people (as is evident by the 80+% poll above) but good looks is an advantage only in some situations, and a disadvantage in others. --think grade school and how the less good looking girls would gang up and go after the hottest girl in the class. ...regardless if the hottie even knows that she is. (a hottie) ...they start vicious rumors (slut, stupid...)

There are definitely some that only rise to mediocrity because of their good looks giving them an attitude that doesn't involve going as hard. However, if they put that same effort in and weren't good looking, they'd be below.

I know two siblings, one has the "I work out 5 days a week" look even though he doesn't. The other, short, and thinly. The former just doesn't push as hard in anything, successful, but only 60% of what his brother does. Now it wasn't always that way, there was an attitude adjustment that happened from the latter; instead tearing others down to his size, he worked to build himself and others up. Major turn around financially when he became very liberal.

I know others that do not think highly of their looks or height, but continue down the path of tearing things down. They will never ever get anywhere. Who wants to be around that?

I agree, its not automatic success to be good looking, now automatic failure to not be. However, when meeting a person, light travels faster than sound, and looks may very well be the first impression our mind forms of some one. For some, it biases more than others, and perhaps in different ways. That a bias takes place I do not doubt. The poll has more to do with the bias of others, and not the achievements of the person(s) in question.

Men are like hardwood floors. Lay them right once, and you can walk on them forever.

A lot of good looking people have been fussed over and pampered all their lives, and gosh darn it, they expect better, you know. Especially the conceited ones.
It is a lot like those people who think they are the smartest person in the room. They act like they know everything, so you'd better listen up...
Some people will fall for it, but in general, it is a net positive for a person to believe and expect better.

I figure looks and or intelligence may get you in the door, but once you are in, you'd better have something on the ball, even if it is only copious BS.

There are two types of good looking folks, those that know they are and use it and those who don't care.
