A Yellowstone Bison Photo Goes Terribly Wrong
Tourist was charged, tossed in air

(NEWSER) – A 62-year-old Australian visitor to Yellowstone National Park has some close-up pictures of an annoyed bison—and some serious but not life-threatening injuries. Park officials say the bison "was already getting agitated" by people crowding around it when the tourist started snapping photos from just 3 to 5 feet away, and the man was tossed in the air several times after the animal charged him, the AP reports.

Less than three weeks ago, in the same part of the park, a 16-year-old Taiwanese girl was gored while posing for a photo too close to a bison. The park, which warns visitors that bison are unpredictable creatures that can move three times as fast as people, recommends staying at least 25 yards away, CNN reports.

That story is nearly 2 years old, but yeah, that sort of thing happens all the time.

I was in the park last October with my in-laws (in my F150 4X4). 80% of the people in the park were Chinese tourists in little rental cars from California. It can (and did) snow there at any time. I doubt any of them are prepared for snow. With more and more Chinese tourists coming, I expect this sort of thing to become more frequent.

And every summer some dumb tourists get nailed by them and come out on the loosing end...it never fails no matter how many languages those warning signs are written in!

I hear you have mooses up there that get decent sized too.
Wouldn't want to pizz them off specially where they are digging ruts .

Evidently the frequency of bison attacks in jellystone has spiked in recent years, and the theory is as follows:
jackholes are getting way too close while trying to take selfies with the animals.
Serial.

Darwin must be working overtime.

My oldest son put this flyer up on his bedroom door after our first trip to Yellowstone, when he was about six. It followed him later to his dorm room door as well.

These flyers are everywhere. Signs are everywhere. Even without them, there really is no excuse.

In the mid '50s the family was on vacation. Driving through Yellowstone was part of the trip. In those days, people would stop their cars and feed bears. We stopped at the end of a bunch of cars, where the people in the front cars were feeding some bears. My parents were commenting about show stupid they were to be doing that, when a bear came out of the woods on the other side of the road. My dad said," You better not come over here and scratch my car (new '56 Olds)." I guess the bear thought he said he would give it a peanut butter sandwich or something and started across the road. As it got closer, it stood up on its hind feet. When it got close my dad said, "I told you to stay away" and punched it in the nose. The bear let out a sound like a kid that just got slapped and ran over to the side of the road. Before it went back into the trees, it look around with a betrayed look on its face.

^^^ love that story.

I delight in telling my friends unfamiliar with bears that we feed them peanut butter out of the car windows.

One time in university, we took a friend who was from Turkey camping for his first time. A small 4-500 lb bear ran across the road in front of us as we were driving into 'The Redneck Beach' near Tofino. I stopped the truck and urged him to get out with me for a photo. 'C'mon, that's just a baby, you should see it's mom...' he never slept a wink all weekend and has probably never been camping since.

When we were in Yellowstone a few months ago, aside from the signs everywhere, the guide repeatedly told us to not get to close to them as they can get agitated very quickly. He watched them very closely and rerouted us a few times to stay clear of them when stopped at viewpoints.

life is important for everyone, so we should not stay closely to the animals in the zoo. we all have only one life.
