![]() At any rate, I keep my guns loaded and ready to fire at home and I'm the furthest thing from a "snowflake" on this subject. BTW, you need to come up w some new insults for the perceived liberals invading your headspace. Those ones are getting played-out and you don't want to seem old or behind the times. Just trying to help. ![]() If anyone ever broke into my home when I was home, it would really be the wrong home to break into. I'd do what was necessary and worry about the law later. I was just making a light hearted remark, as many others have here, about the situation. This guy was more than ready for them, that's all.

I actually do own a safe now. When the kids were young I did not. I guess growning up around guns myself I never thought much about it.

The other side is very open, no cross bar at top, and has 1 rifle there, mag loaded, round in chamber, selector on safe. There is part of a gun (revolver frame) in my car - dunno why I've not taken it out yet, but it is just the frame, no cylinder, barrel, etc. The only other gun I own that isn't in the safe is a $25 single shot 22 remington (mdl 41 IIRC) that is out in my workshop in case of animals in the back yard. |

Back in the day (more than 25 years ago) I had a small collection. They were always locked up in an old bank safe I bought at auction. A gun safe was the norm in Aus.
Then a maniac massacred a bunch of people in Tasmania (35 killed and 23 wounded) & then the law changed and nothing I had was legal anymore. (all semi auto or pump/lever action) Mass killings had happened before Tasmania but nowhere near as many at one time. I handed them into the local Police station, they handed me a check and then cut them up in front of me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_(Australia)

![]() Your comment about your son was interesting, because I have considered similar. My oldest is 13, had a Red Ryder at 4, .22 rifle at 6, .22 Mosquito at 9, and a 686+ at 11. He also frequently shoots my multiple handguns, AR, and PS90, in addition to hunting with my brother in law and father in law. Always respectful and responsible, always takes guns seriously. Though my wife grew up shooting and can also easily handle a revolver, so I'm reasonably comfortable with her ability to defend herself as well. I travel often, so it's a concern for me.

I read the same updated article that John linked to. I also saw a picture of the house. It was a large, obviously upper class brick house on an acreage. Bad woman told the cops that she had identified the house as probably being full of expensive stuff and thought she could make a big score quickly by breaking in.
The bad guys had already broken into a guest house on the property earlier that day, which again suggests this is an expensive neighborhood, rather than a drug den. They came back to burglarize the main house when they stumbled into the homeowner's son. Son was holed up in his bedroom and called 911 from there, apparently after the shots were fired but he didn't know how many he hit. 911 operator told him to stay where he was an hold his gun until the cops got there, but to put it down and shout to the police when they got there. The 911 operator stayed on the line and communicated with the son and the responding sheriff until the son reported he was with the deputy and could put down the gun. It doesn't sound like there was any connection between the home and the criminals other than they cased it, expecting it to be a rich target. Bad woman admitted to seeing the third guy run out onto the driveway but she left him behind. She did drive to a police station and turn herself in, though. It's hard to tell from a couple of incomplete news articles, but it sounds like the house was the target of random violence and the son handled it about as well as possible.

Exactly my thought, and a totally rational reaction.

if you put me on a jury anyone who shoots an intruder in their home is getting my vote for 'rational'. it's simply unfair to demand the homeowner/resident be competent enough to assess the danger of B&E perp prior to defending themselves. what if your wife or kids are murdered because you took too long trying to decide of the guy had a legit weapon? civilians just are not trained for this.

I'm guessing they had to look for awhile for a "security expert" to say that. Never mind that that might not work if the intruder is high (or pumped full of adrenaline) or highly motivated.

Wonder if this Kardian guy is a mall ninja type. Seems he's advocating for shooting near the heart. guess i'd have to agree.
the idea of shooting a gun at a human being for the purpose of anything short of killing them is ludicrous.

I like the way "Stand Your Ground" has been changed to "Make My Day" to make the homeowner seem to be more of a vigilante.
