Wow! That video reminded me (at least to my time ravaged tin ears) of this guy - straying from the thread theme a little

I always liked his style and of course his creations.
In an interview he claimed to not be any where close to being an accomplished guitarist.
In a documentary many years ago he tells of the time when he contacted Clapton to accompany him (or the other way around) to go see J. Hendrix at some club. They went. Townsend said that it was dreadful..."My career is over."
.

Guys...I wish you all would post your "ten favorites list"... and not throw out VERY worthy additions....that's what makes it hard :). You're gonna have to omit somebody you really like....makes it tough. We had a huge thread some years back where folks just added to the list....btdt.

Hey Sammy...you still play that "tenor" guitar?
I still smile when I think about it...

Aragorn 04-10-2017 12:48 PM

My list of 10, ranked in my opinion of greatest mastery, style and artistry

1. SRV
2. EVH
3. Randy Rhodes (Ozzy)
4. George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch Mob)
5. Warren DeMartini (Ratt)
6. Zakk Wylde (Ozzy/Black Label Society)
7. Andy Taylor (The Power Station/Solo)
8. Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains/Solo)

The wife got me a really nice pair of headphones I can plug into the amp so that i can play as loud as I want and no one hears it but me. Hey .......

esample 04-10-2017 07:33 PM

How about Robert Johnson and Chuck Berry? No rock or blues guitarist can play anything without licks influenced by these two. No Duane Allman? No Steven Stills?

Mark Henry 04-10-2017 08:13 PM

I agree many of the choices so far but Carol Kaye should also be on the list.
You might not know her name, but you all have heard her work.

Rick Lee 04-10-2017 08:34 PM

Here's my #1

List TEN people...is that too much to ask :)

Fwiw....Duane was in the first post, and I probably have everything he ever recorded (released) along with Robert Johnson too. Stills is fantastic, but not on MY TEN FAVORITES LIST. Chuck...mentioned him too, but ditto...

There are hundreds of worthy guitarists to be mentioned...

BUT that's not what this thread is about :)

List ten of yours (who ya gonna leave out is the hard part imo)!!!

stomachmonkey 04-11-2017 04:13 AM

My ten in no particular order

David Gilmore
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Frank Zappa
Willie Nelson
Prince
Jimmy Page
Joe Walsh
Billy Gibbons
All of Skynyrd
Carlos Santana

Carol started as a guitarist but her major contributions and what she's best known for is the bass.

yazhound 04-11-2017 08:02 AM

Springsteen
Page
SRV
Santana
Mike Ness
Mick Taylor
Keith
Jimmy Rogers (Muddy's band)
Scott Gorham/Brian Robertson
