These are not necessarily the hottest, most exquisite technique, highest technical ability, just the favorites to listen to. I appreciate Guthrie, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, and other tech savants for their high level of fretboard skill but I rarely sit down and listen to a whole CD of their work. These guys are just often way too busy for me. I could listen to D. Gilmour for a week.

Geez back in HS me a buddy were listening to Gilmour's first solo LP. We'd picked up a Guitar Player mag with Heart sisters well, Nancy, and bam > when asked about current listenings she brought up Gilmour's first solo LP. Didn't we think we were something...

I saw Dave Mason last night, at 70 he ranks right up there.

I read the first page of this thread and wondered....what about Michael Schenker? Seriously, his 'phrasing' is (was) on a par with Mr. Gilmore and Mr. Clapton. He is on my shortlist, frankly.

That was a cracking good record from God's Guitar Player, too. "No Way Out of Here"

Cajun, I was clumsily trying to say that there is a lots of lovely blues noodlers...like you, I cant listen to Malmstein or Vai either- but I find GGs musicality, vocabulary and composition quite different. Just MO.

Hey Supe...post 9 more! Sometimes among all the ones listed that we all seem to like, many listed above...there are a bunch I've never heard of...or forgot about :)
