What to get for my birthday?

The big 60 is coming up soon and the wife said to get what I wanted. A new jag convertible went by when she said that, she again said get what I want.

Now a new jag would be nice, but since we moved to Florida I really don't drive much, and I've planned to just drive the wife's old Boxster till it or I die. I put 4000 a year on it since we moved.

I like my plane and trust it now that I've owned it for 5 years, so I'm good there.

I've had motorcycles in the past, but I'm not sure I'm that comfortable getting another one with the traffic and drivers down here.

The only other thing I can think of is a new hand spoon. I have several, but I can always use another range toy. Maybe a new sig or Walther, or?

I must be getting old when I can't think of anything I want. Well there is that red head down the street but I know I can't afford that.

That is a good idea, but sadly the wife is dealing with some health issues . Maybe for Christmas.

I was looking at a jag back around 1990. I was talking with the owner of the dealership as I was concerned with the upkeep. He said if I wasn't willing to spend around $800 a year for routine maintenance it probably wasn't for me. I bought a Vette.

But I sure liked that xjs with the 12 cylinders.

Bucket List Experience perhaps? Northern Lights, driving at the PEC, Uluru, Alaska in summer for the sunlight...at least those are in my list.

RKD keeps pushing the "Party Button" and I'm inclined to agree. You're in Fla, there's gotta be a party boat/ barge around there you could rent. Throw in a Pablo Cruise cover band and you've got yourself an evening of enchantment.

You seem content with what you have, use this birthday to make a memory.

Very sorry to hear your wife is having a hard time, we went through breast cancer/mastectomy/chemo 2 years ago and to say it was hard would be an understatement. My suggestion for a b'day present would be to book a 2 or 3 night resort/spa for you and your wife, once she gets through the chemo and its aftermath, to relax and enjoy each others company without the worry of health problems. Recovery takes a while but, with luck, she will regain her health, and a couple of days being pampered will lift both your spirits.

after just finishing eight months of treatment for colon cancer. I can attest to just wanting to see happiness in a sea of dread. she means it..... buy something so she can see you excited and blissfully happy. i wish her the best. really.

Mine was yesterday....just another day in paradise...they have no real significance to me . Sorry to hear about your wife's issues DM...best wishes to you all as you go through this. Make a memory for you both when the time is right imo....you and she have earned it!!!

Thanks, we had planed a big vacation this summer previous to this. She was able to take a trip to see some friend and the grandkids previous to her treatment. When she feels better we will take our trip then.

She started chemo a week ago and we were either at the cancer center or ER everyday since. She had her first chemo on Monday and Tuesday passed out and hit her head on the tile floor. So she is recovering from that also.

And she feels bad that she had planned a party for my 60th and we cancelled it. It's really not a big deal to me, just another day. But she said she wanted me to get something nice.

I really don't want to spend the money for a car, but I'm thinking maybe a new spoon or something for the plane.

If I knew I was going to finish my instrument rating I'd upgraded my panel, but the wife is a bit of a nervous flyer and would rather not fly in those conditions, so I hate to spend $20k plus on something that I wouldn't need.

Both my uncle and I have been having an absolute blast with our new Diana air rifles....unbelievably accurate and just a LOT of fun. We both have a small arsenal of pistols and rifles, but these things are a hoot .

When my mother was undergoing chemo and was in and out of the hospital, on his birthday my father bought himself a little Corgi puppy "to keep me company".

The hospital would let him bring Charity into her room for a few minutes every morning.

The positive impact of "my father's dog" on my Mother is hard to measure.

Of course this may not work in your situation.
