trying to cut WAAY back on food.
i went to eat sushi with a friend. this friend is fit. long distance jogger.
i ordered my food and he ordered his. i looked like i was ordering for three compared to him. he ordered two orders of Nigiri. that is four pieces of fish, some tiny ass rice balls all wrapped up in some inconsequential ribbons of seaweed paper. to further my shame..i finished my food before him. couple things..i am never eating with him ever again. (and he did pay for everything) and apparently, i eat too much..he said he was satisfied..and would eat something later. i could buy mutliple homes if i had his food budget. he told me when he eats at a restaurant, he automatically put half of the food into a togo container..or gets the server to do it for him. i think i eat too much!!

Retired, finally
|
I started back on the diet 3 weeks ago: approximately 1200 calories a day, using the Lose It app. Hardest thing I've had to do is delete the mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack, but it's working: Ive lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks.
Only another 36 pounds to go.............

I used to go regularly with a friend to eat sushi, we order and eat so much all the workers would stare in disbelief that we could eat it all. Neither of us are "over weight". I'm convinced sushi digest differently. Maybe you're just a "meal guy", lots of light eaters snack quite a bit. I'm sure we could all cut back a little. Tim

As I've gotten older, I've found that I don't need (or want, really) to eat nearly as much as I used to. So...I only eat dinner. I skip breakfast and lunch and eat whatever I want for dinner. I've been doing this for probably 4 years now. Works for me.

Something from Fox I can agree with 100%.
Weight gain with age: Why it happens and how to stop it | Fox News Male at rest uses 4000 calories a day. Female closer to 2000 calories a day. 5 small meals of lean and green is preferred to carbs. Portion control and lots of water too. Probiotics and enzymes pills for digestion seem to help too. I just did the medifast diet lost 40 lbs in 4 months and lost only 2 lbs of lean mass. Now on maintenance with a year ahead of weekly meetings with the medifast nutritionist. My food cravings are much more healthy and not emotional. Now I crave food that is good for my body. The My fitness pal app is helpful in discerning what foods are good or not. Helped at the start of the diet switched to vodka with tonic for a 60 calorie drink or even better with club soda for 0 calories. Eliminating beer and pasta was my breakthrough.

4 pieces of sushi is not a normal sized meal for even a light eater IMHO. Gotta be less than 250 calories

The Stick
|
Was picking up dinner for 4 at the Chili's drive thru when I noticed something I will remember.
ALL of the people of normal weight left carrying togo/doggie bag containers. ALL of the fat or overweight people were not carrying anything so had evidently ate it all. When I go out I usually bring half home making 2 meals out of it. I prefer to go pickup the food to go and bring it home as it usually makes 3 meals instead of just 2. Last time I went out to eat with a group of people we all split our entree with another in the group. The waitress even brought it out as individual entrees instead of an entree and and extra plate. None of us left hungry.

That plus a lot of water help me feel full and not snacking on bad food. I have gone from 200-210 to 180-185 (my goal is 175). I was on a low carb diabetic diet, switching to the Atkins (diabetic diet was a scam/clinic and big money suck). Co-workers husband was type 2 and got his blood sugar down by sticking to the Atkins diet. Again a no brainer, carbs=sugar=evil... but darn I miss bread/pasta/rice/white potatoes (I do cheat about once a week )More on point to Vash, A) Never, never, never turn down free sushi! B) Your friend is a freak=four pieces of sushi would not satisfy a 80 pound girl (I suspect he was just having a snack and ate before and/or after) C) I still go out for sushi but just get the sashimi assortment/plate. D) Back in the day it was not uncommon for me to drop $60-$80 at a sushi bar... and that was before prices went up! E) Never turn down free sushi!

A lot of diets are the smaller meal and snacks type and work well. I had no problem keeping weight off on the Zone diet and I seldom was hungry. There were many times I was sick of food though. What you eat is important also. You could eat a whole head of iceberg lettuce and it is only 53 calories. Or you could eat a whole Blooming Onion with sauce which is about 5.3 billion calories and a bunch of the bad kids of fat. Both will fill your stomach. Both will kill you, one by starvation and the other through heart disease.

I'll relate my issue. I can take a supplement which curbs appetite, and it works very well. My problem is I don't get a "full" signal from my stomach, only a "stuffed" signal. I just straight over-eat.
