A couple of years ago, REI was having a big sale of some sort and my wife talked me into not only getting my first pair of flip-flops in probably 20-25 years, but I also somehow ended up with a pair of Olukai "dress" flip flops.

I think they are these or something very similar

If there is a slapping sound coming from my feet! It's from birkenstocks.

So glad to hear this! I thought it was just me and my wimpy feet. I have a pair, and re-try them periodically and always have the same experience as peteremsley!!!

Hearing that it is "normal" to have to get used to them, I may give them another try. The concept of a "slide" is much more appealing than the "thong" idea for me if I am going to wear some kind of flip flop. I never really quite get used to the strap between the toe on normal flip flops, so if I am going to try to get used to something, I think I will try the bed of needles!!!!

I'm shocked, the Crocs flip flops that I bought back in 2017 finally had the toe strap break on the right foot. I don't wear them that much. I guess that was 4.5 years, which isn't bad for inexpensive flip-flops in the grand scheme of things. I need another pair. I don't wear them often, but I do wear them from time to time.
