Even if these twins seeded the idea, Zuckerberg was the guy that built both the product, and the company. You may feel that the twins weren't fairly compensated for their contribution, but that doesn't take anything away from his accomplishments. The fact that the twins didn't/couldn't come up with a competing product or business without him says a lot to me about which side came up with the secret sauce.

It seems to me that greatness stems from the ability to get things done, and by that metric, I think Zuckerberg qualifies.

I disagree, if come up with an idea, and have a machinist fabricate the part, and while making your part, he starts building and selling the same thing (and I have personally seen this happen and it has happened to me) that is stealing. Had the twins not hired Z, he wouldn't have had the concept. He'll, there use to be a well known Porsche parts manufacture seller who would order parts from a small shop, then reverse engineer the parts, and sell his own version. No matter how you look at it, it is stealing. Remember, fb did pay the twins, if there really was no case, do you really think they would have coughed up $65 million?

Cosby could be guilty of all he is accused of and would STILL be a man who brought more net benefit to his world than most of the clowns named in this thread.

We need to rethink what the meaning of 'great' is. it's fairly clear that too many judge greatness by the size of something that was done and not the benefit it gave.

The question in my mind lately is "WHERE are the great men of today?" More specifically, "Where are the great statesmen of today?"

I don't wanna PARF this thread but....I can sit down with a neighbor whose votes and public policy preferences are diametrically opposed to my own and have a very satisfying conversation about what America needs (over a couple of beers and a barbeque). Americans think the same way and expect the same things regardless of political persuasion. We agree on what we want. Indeed, we ordinary Americans are more cohesive than the buttheads in DC. Wouldn't it be nice if someone stepped forward to transcend the differences and remind us of our unity as a nation. Remind us of the principles of our founding fathers that are in the center of our collective heart today. I think it is possible, but that nobody has done it in recent years.

The two great tech titans IMO were Thomas Watson Jr. and Steve Jobs. But if we mean men who are alive today I would pick people like Roger Penske and Bob Dylan. Musk and Zuckerberg et al aren't even in the same ballpark.

A sad commentary, to me, that the baseline of what men should be is considered greatness.

Many years ago I started Modern Dad magazine. My life's goal has always been to create a philanthropically-focused, for profit company that changes society, for the better. We published Modern Dad for 3 years before finding that a special section we ran, FirstTime Dad, was the right focus. Modern Dad was Popular Mechanics, Popular Science and Men's Health all rolled into one. My favorite article we ever did was the physics behind a curve ball and how to teach your son to throw one. But in the end, reaching men when they were already stuck in the provider role was too late we found. The reception to FirstTime Dad as a section was phenomenal, written up in the NY Times and on TV a few times. Went to childbirth education tradeshows to build a circulation base of Lamaze teachers, doulas, nurse midwives, etc. These women would give me hugs in my booth they were so happy to have a magazine for their dads-to-be. Reached over 1 million circ in 2 years. Moms loved it more than anyone else but we got a lot of letters from dads-to-be thanking us for the magazine. Should never have sold it.
