Sounds like a clickbait headline from a website I've never heard of. I think I'm not clicking it.

So it fits right in with the vast majority of facebook these days.

There are other articles on that site with that tone to them. The article I posted looked reasonable to me.

Here is another headline from that site.

I personally don't get the fascination of Tattoo's.
if you get em when you are young , they will probably look **** when you are old.
They are another identifier if somebody you don't like tries to find out.
They cost money
Get the wrong design and you get bored with it years later.. well that sucks
If you pick the wrong tattooartist, you end up with something you don't like right away.. that sucks even more.
Can't put em anywhere visible without risking certain employment limitations.
put em anywhere not visible, and wel, what's the point..
Nobody has ever gotten prettier from a tattoo. At best they just changed from whatever x out of 10 they were to , the same rating, but now a bit more liked by people who like the design or the edgyness it expresses.

loads of other reasons not to do it, more reasons then to actually get them.

I have never, and will never get any tattoos. I told my wife, unless, I am in the NFL, or maybe the olympics, and get a small logo tat, I can't get the fascination. I have a freind who has small meaningless, cheap, tatoos in really weird places, and they just make her look unwashed. She has them in her earlobes, and between her fingers, and who knows where else. To spend a whole paycheck on a momento doesn't make sense to me, and quite frankly, I have never asked anyone about one of their tats, mainly because i'm not interested.....should I be, and should I ask ?

Sure, get that little dolphin tattoo. Don't worry, it will be a whale later in life so you won't get tired of it.

I'm not surprised. I already have this in my repertoire of reasons not to get a tattoo when talking to my kids. I never read up on it, but injecting paint into your biggest organ (your skin) doesn't sound like a good idea just on first principle.

"Everyone" has tattoos. Not correct. The majority of people I interact with as friends and coworkers have none.

I live in a beach town that's also home to a university and I see LOTS of people with tattoos every day. They're mostly younger (20s-30s) but ever since tattooing went mainstream, I'm also seeing a fair number of older folks (50s-60s) sporting fresh ink as well. While not trying to be too judgemental or critical, I'm having a hard time understanding this newfound fascination with tattoos. Why exactly are so many people sporting skin art these days? Is it simply just to follow the herd? I do realize that tattooing has been around forever and that the practice has always had it's ardent devotees. Until about ten years ago, a relatively small number of people got tattooed to stand out from the crowd and display their work as an art form. Now, if you have tattoos, you are the crowd and even middle-aged housewives are hopping on the bandwagon and getting inked. It's not just for the fringe element any more and both TV and print advertising have been showing more & more models with tattoos lately as well.

Do people with tattoos ever look at somebody else's work and think, "Man, that looks like crap". Or, does just having some ink, anything at all, admit you to the 'club' and nobody really judges the merits of your work?

I've started paying closer attention to what people choose to permanently display on themselves and just have to wonder why they picked those particular images in the first place. Why would a guy tattoo a chainsaw on his calf, or a woman do some vines and flowers all down her arms and across her shoulders, or why a guy would want a bloody skull & dagger inked on his neck? And then there's some who maybe can't decide on an image, so they simply cover parts of themselves with swirls or patterns. I can understand that some people actually like chainsaws, flowers, or even bloody skulls...but why not just print these things on a T-shirt instead? What is it about permanently displaying these mostly-uninspiring images on one's body? Sometimes I liken major upper-body ink to buying some wild-looking shirt, then wearing it every single day for the rest of your life.

Would a person interested in getting tattooed be as inclined to hand some stranger a can of spray paint and have them draw all over their car as they are to have their skin used as a permanent canvas for displaying someone else's artwork?

I brought up a good question that probably should have it's own thread....Do you ask other people about their tattoos, or is that tabboo ?

Are the inked ready to share with the world their reasons/inspiation for their particular skin art, or is it to be seen, but not spoken of ?

I've often been tempted to ask people with particularly unappealing tattoos, "Why did you do that to yourself?"

I've seen some mighty bad hsit in my days...war zone, for example.
To this day, when I look at a tattoo (not for long) I get a sick feeling.
Mostly I feel badly for the person.
But then, do as you wish..........se la vie.
.
Edit: Raised Catholic, schooled in an Academy...probably accounts for my view.

This one I get:

Most of the rest on people I encounter are just bored middle-agers trying to project a tough image or bad ideas from their 20's that proved permanent.

Interesting article. I knew people got addicted to getting tats, because of the endorphins released while getting them. At times I have wondered how safe the ink is.

Tats are a total turn off for me. I can see an attractive woman, then notice she has a tattoo and not look back. Like others I just can't understand why they are so popular and what is wrong with them to do that.

Back when I was married, she wanted to get a tattoo. I said no way in hell if you want to stay together. We divorced some years later. I went on my merry way, but some friends of mine kept tabs on her over the internet since she had gone bonkers. One day a friend called and said they were e-mailing me a link to a social media post of hers. They knew I didn't care but said I had to see it..

I hadn't seen or heard from her in over a year, but for some odd reason she was really pissed at me. In retaliation for whatever I had done, she went and got a tattoo in protest. Then about six months later she did it again.

All I could do was laugh and say WTF ever..
