Good one, KC! Should be everyone's first tat...or last.

I've got a few tattoos. A few of them are pretty good sized, but they can all be covered up easily enough by a shirt with sleeves and a pair of trousers. They are all related to my military service. I got them when I was in the navy in my 20s. It's all part of my life's story.
I think you guys worry too much about what other people do with their bodies and money.

A woman working at the cigar lounge has something similar, when I look across the room and see her dog looking at me it is weird.
She gave the puppy away to a friend because it was tearing up her house but visits it. She was much prettier without it, but I have not said that to her. What good could come of it? She has been putting on some weight, her arms are getting fatter, and the dog along with it. Just too weird.

Well. OK. I guess this thread confirms that people who get tattoos suffer from some sort of chemical imbalance. But we already knew that.

I think it is simpler than that................. just a lapse in judgement.......... at best, a symptom of poor judgement skills at worst.
This, combined with an ability to self righteously justify the act to themselves on high minded principles......... |

I believe that's a photoshop, not a real tattoo.

I never thought I would get one. Whenever it comes up, this story comes to mind.
Back in 1995 when first started making any dough, living in an apartment in Texas, I was in Sacto visiting the folks, and was at my cousins place, getting some clothes that he had become too fat to wear anymore. We were sitting around on the porch of his current domicile, a nice, restored 75 year old duplex in mid-town, had a Murphy bed in living room. My friend of over 10 years, Jim Pantages, who I had not seen in about a year and a half, walked up. Asked how he was, where he was going, on his way home. Turns out he lived right next door to my cousin in the other half of the duplex, and he was very proud of this new tattoo he had. Treble clef surrounded by a whole note, he was a muscian, that was pretty cool, nice color greenish blue in it. I said it was cool, but I would not get a tattoo, what is there that I would want to wear the rest of my life, right. About a week later, after returning to Texas, I got a call from my mom, Jim had been shot and killed by a couple of criminals out robbing people. Jim had just finished a gig, and was killed while he and Spider were loading equipment. Was a big group of us that hung out together, and I got to talking about it with my brother. I said I had never had any interest in getting a tattoo, but I wanted to get that one that Jim got right before he was killed. They caught the perps when they used Jim's credit card where one of the guy's girlfriends worked, lucky they were stupid. Turns out, several people had the same idea, and at the end of summer in 1995, went to the same tattoo artist and about a dozen of us got that tat. Well, not exactly, I got a mirror image of it, as Jim had it less than a week and died, so I figured I did not want the same thing exactly. Over that labor day weekend, there were a few benefit concerts, and now there is a Jim Pantages Scholarship Fund at El Camino HS in Sacramento. That is how I ended up with a tattoo. Since that time, I discovered that a couple who were robbed and shot at and missed the same night, they ran away after they tossed there valuables in the other direction, had a mutual friend, Doug Hannah, when they told me about it when we happened to meet. Neither of them knew Jim. I also happened to have a guy who worked at channel 13 with Jim for years come in as a patient. Talked to him for hours, lucky he was last one, coming in after work. Small world. I was talking to a patient at the hospital a few weeks ago, she remembered that deal with Jim well enough that she remembered his name, last name anyway. I doubt if I will get another tattoo

The parents of a good friend of mine both got tattoos that were applied against their will. They were 5 digit numbers on their forearms. That was back in the early 1940s.

No ink here....but I have drawn several tribal type designs for people that had them tattoo'd.
At least 6 people that I used to work with were addicted to getting tattoos. It had to be an addiction because they would be flat broke the day or two before payday and then go right out and get a new one or pay a little to have more color added to an existing one. The thing that bugged me was that a couple of the women had kids and would ask to borrow a twenty so they could buy food for the days before they got the next paycheck. But the tattoo was priority over budgeting money to last two weeks to feed the kids!

I'm an un-inked Professional Land Surveyor with full ownership rights in the family plot of the local cemetery. I'm also the last of 5 siblings, single, no children. The thought has occurred to me to have a tattoo of the Lat and Lon of my final resting place inked upon my body, but seeing as how the NGS keeps screwing around with the location of the center of the Earth every few years, and the probability that the Funeral Director uses Google Earth, I just haven't got around to getting that tat.

I really don't care if someone has tats or not. I just have enough trouble dealing with the issues of aging without ink fading and getting blurry to help remind me.

How am I being judgemental? Look at the comments people have made about those that have tattoos. Given their comments, one would think those with tattoos are all bumbling losers, lacking the judgement to make even the most basic decisions in life.

Caring what STRANGERS think about your opinion is ANOTHER symptom of low self esteem and poor judgement.
