I used to go out to lunch every day. The office is just 4.5 miles from home, but there was seldom anything to eat at home. We were running our asses off, eating lunch and dinner on the fly. Now that we're retired I still have lunch at Skyline Chili once a week and check in with the guys at El Riacho once a week for a chicken enchilada. Dinner is always at home now.

Too far for me to go home. I do take my lunch every day though. Amazes me how many of my coworkers go out for lunch or order in every day. The same people that regularly complain about money.... 🙄🙄🙄

I sit on the dock some days and eat a sandwich. Previously I would drive home sometimes, ~5 miles, and usually ended up being late. Get in the pool, make some good, start laundry... never had the discipline to get there and back on time.

I used to be 15 minutes away and sometimes would go home. It was great but could not sit on the couch ... otherwise going back would be like getting up all over again in the morning!

I dream about working form home. Some day ...

I love it ! Come home, let the dog out, eat last nights dinner, and get an honest 20 minutes to be alone with my own thoughts, then back to work, with a fresh head
Ive been doing this for the last 3 weeks now. I am probably eating a lot healthier also. Ive sustained myself on a diet of stop and go hot dogs, hot lamp pizza, and convenience store salads for the last 20 years.
I do a few times a week. More to let the dogs out then enjoy a meal. I live 4 miles from my shop so it is easy for me... I do enjoy being away for a short while during the day which starts early and ends late.

I need to start this. Except bicycle days...well I could use my work car. Then there are the days I'm like a million miles away on the job site.

My dog would love the visit.

Either way, I pack my lunch. I'd be a fat toad if I ate out all the time.

We cooked at the fire hall every day. Nothing beats fresh bread and home made soup for soup and sandwiches. We ate healthy.

17 yards from workshop door to kitchen door now that I've sold my store, so its soup for lunch from a tin now instead of the sandwiches I used to take to work

Going home for lunch is great. I'm about 2 miles away from the office, allowing me to bike there when it's nice outside. However, the gf works from home, so she enjoys getting out of the house for any reason at all. I love going home for lunch--make a sandwich, watch a show on netflix, or start marinating dinner... allows me to reset for the afternoon to refocus on editing, or writing.

However, when I did work from home (which I still do here and there) I used lunch as an excuse to get out of the house. The amount of money you save eating at home really adds up, too.

Office is about halfway between my parent's home and mine. I have gone to both places for lunch before, and it is great, particularly if Mom baked a pie or something. In the summer I like going home for a BLT, but the tomato plants are about done.

Shaun, somehow I expected your grill to be powder coated, and the grill pattern on a steak to either have a porsche emblem or match the decklid grills you restore. Surprised you grill when you have a walk-in baking oven .....

Timely post, I came home for lunch today. But it takes too long if I check out PP.......

Hour long lunch today. This is all new to me. I have not really taken lunches in 20 years. Always sat down for a sandwich, while writing estimates, or making phone calls. Never fails, that 3 people , the ups man, and a parts delivery guy show up at lunch. I end up eating on the run every day, and never decompressing.
I love this !!

I long for the days that I worked in the corporate world and sat down to a quiet lunch in a really nice restaurant every day.

It's been downhill ever since.

My office is 2 miles from the house. Yes, when I have time I will go home and have leftovers sandwich etc..

There have also been a lot of nooners when the kid is at school.

Yo Fred.......good to hear you are doing something for yourself! Not only because you deserve it...but because it's what I categorize as 'survival mode'.

You are a little younger than I....but trust me as you continue to get older you will gravitate more and more toward things (other than work) that are important in maintaining some balance in your life.

This coming from a bit of a workaholic who has finally seen the light!

As someone who works outside in the elements....coming home at mid-day for me, allows an opportunity for the body temp to reset. Then comes all the other things....
  • Let furballs out...
  • Eat
  • Drink
  • Change out tools and materials in truck
  • Check email and any phone messages
  • Relax and let body rest
  • And yes.....watch a little TV! Rockford Files, The Big Valley, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza are some of the shows I have enjoyed while on break.....

Oh and add to the above......check in on PPOT and make sure I'm not missing anything important!!!
