My day

Sometimes I just have a good day. That was today. I got soooo much done. Started out installing linux on my new laptop. That was pretty painless. Went out and the sun was shining and the temp was rising. Got on the mower and got the yard done and trimmed. Pulled up my tomato plants and mulched that with the mower. Made a pot of chili. Edit: Left out washing the Cayman and the truck. Got on the phone and got enrolled in a medicare advantage plan. New for me so, lots of reading. Yes I am old. Went to the barn and hung out with a buddy. Came home and got my wireless printer working with he new linux laptop. (not as simple as Windows) Now drinking a beer and enjoying the internet. If every day went like this my life would be super. Just had to post up.

That's awesome, Jack....especially the part about the computer work that went so smoothly. Every time I do stuff with my computer I end up frustrated because of something not making any sense...lol.

Last weekend I built a 6' x 24' metal panel canopy for my back patio and did everything myself. Felt good all week just looking at the dividend paid off by my efforts.

Would love to hear more about the Medicare program. I'm 63 and will be looking at something like that fairly soon....another year and a half, I guess. I was going to use Humana.

Days like that re-ground us, and make us remember why we are here. I have taken every Friday in October off work for about 10 years now. It is a time that I can just be at home alona, have a leisurly lunch, play with the dogs, cut some firewood, finish a couple of small projects, and just slow down for a day......truly needed most weeks.

Shoot me a PM on the medicare and I'll share what I learned. I did a lot of readinng. Costs actually vary depending on what state you are in.

Sometimes I just need a sense of accomplishment. I miss having dogs. They can be very entertaining. Maybe next year???

Tahrpup. Light, fast and easy to use. Does pretty much everything Windows does without the aggravation.

Boot with a Linux Mint LiveDVD adn make sure all hardware works. If it does, you are good to go -click the install button

If it doesn't, then consider running VirtualBox under your Windows system, and run Linux as a VM

Mint is great. I used for quite a while. It actually does way more than I need. One can also install linux to a flash drive and just run it from that. Thats how I ran several different distros before I found the one I prefer.

I use Mint as my desktop (and laptop, and desktop at work, and desktop in the lab where I teach) but I'm teaching the LPI certification course which uses Ubuntu, and I teach a "Network Services With Linux" and we use Debian for all servers there. Kinda nice, since Ubuntu is based on Debian, and Mint is based on Ubuntu.

Have used quite a few others over the years, including a LFS system and Gentoo...

I wish I had the skills that you have. I am just a clicker that got tired of Windows a few years ago. I do not hate Windows but I enjoy linux so much more. Fast, free, easy install, no defrag or check disc to run, it does not want to update every Tuesday and I dont need an antivirus. I must have tried 10 versions of linux. Tahrpup has many options that I have never even looked at.
