Wonderful property. Even up here in northern England, if in the unlikely event of anything that size even being found, it would cost multi million dollars.In the home counties, ie around London outskirts, tens of millions.

I also have a Honda powered 4000KW that I use both as stand-by power and for tasks around the farm that require electric power for tools and compressors to run nail guns, etc.

I really like redundancy since we have lost power for upwards of a week after big storms. The PTO will power the entire house except for the heat pump. That includes potable a/c units I have in storage, freezers, fridge and the well pump for water.

I will generally use the PTO during the day and the potable gas gen at night if need be.

Again, your property looks great...best.

Nice digs Patrick, congrats! I agree that if you choose to live in the great white north, comfortable living space is important.

We are roughly on the 5 year plan now. I could actually stay where I am because the house is nice, quiet, lots of privacy while in the middle of suburbia. We will probably go wherever the grandkids go and keep the beach condo as a hedge against harsh winters elsewhere.

On the generator front, could you have a whole house unit set remotely and wired into the home? With access to natural gas that would be a pretty nice setup.

I know you said you have it covered but I'd sell the Kubota and get one of these for a property like that. They can use about every attachment you can buy for a Bobcat skid steer, They're 4x4, lift 1500 with the front boom and handle 1 ton in the bed, and they have 4 wheel steering mode. AWESOME toy/work tool.

This place doesn't have a pond, it has a small creek just north of the house. Cose enough to qualify as a water source for the fire department. I'm going to get settled in before I buy any more equipment. I'll need a finish mower and my tractor can only handle a 5 footer. If I decide I need a bigger tractor I will look into the Frankentractor Cabman posted the photo of.

That's a beautiful place you guys picked up. Congrats. On the stove front, have you considered induction? My wife HATES electric too. Most of our kitchens have always had gas. We're remodeling now and she's landed on an induction cooktop and a steam oven. The ones we are getting are Wolf units and are very well made and tested. Food (HA!) for thought.

Really not trying to sell ya! Those things are AWESOME. I have owned and used a few. The one pictured is a Bobcat Toolcat 5600. They make a 5610 that loses the dump bed but has 3 point with PTO on the back. Trouble is, the things are EXPENSIVE. The one pictured above with less than 1000 hours and new enough to have independent suspension will run $32-$36000. I just sold a low hour 2016 model for $44,000
I don't think they make a cutter/mower wider than 72" for these things.

It’s been a week since the BIG MOVE and I am somewhat recovered. Last Thursday was 12 hours of getting ready for the movers – clearing snow at both houses and getting a temporary fence up at the new place for the dogs. Temperatures were in the teens and the snow was about 8 inches deep and the wind was whipping pretty good – basically a miserable day to be outside all day. My thumb hurt like he ll because I fishhooked a piece of wire into it while putting up the fence the day before. It was covered with blood and I couldn’t see how the wire went in. After wiggling it a while I decided it was too damn cold for this this s**t and gave it yank. Ripped a nice ¼ divot out of my thumb.
Moving day was just brutal. The movers arrived at the old house at 8 AM and I didn’t give them their tips and waved goodbye until 10:30 PM. I was outside most of the time, directing traffic and helping to carry stuff. Late in the day I noticed my fingers hurting but I was too tired to think about it. Looked at them the next morning and the skin at the corners of my nails had split – the result of working for hours in cold wet gloves.

It’s a hour commute from between houses and I thought moving into the new place and living here while I worked on it was a good idea. I’m beginning to rethink that now that we’ve moved. I hope our experience is on an upward curve, but it’s still pretty bad. The house if full of dust and cartons of stuff and furniture stacked in random places. The kitchen remodel won’t be finished for a couple of weeks, so we don’t have much of a kitchen. I’m converting one of the bedrooms to a TV room, which means ripping out a bathroom and two walls. The demo of the bathroom is about finished and it is UGLY in there.



The skin on my fingers cracked open due to being in freezing cold, wet gloves for hours and hours.



I ripped a ¼ divot out of my thumb. It’s still throbbing a week later.




Our beautiful new home is piled with crap.




This main floor 13’x16’ bedroom was scheduled to be turned into a media room. That meant tearing out the bathroom behind the wall on the right, and the wall beyond that.

The guy who built this place was an electrician and a gadget nut.
It has a hot water recirculating system, so there is hot water available almost instantly at every faucet. It's on a timer, and I have it come on in the morning for a couple of hours so the shower is hot and ready for me.

There is an old NuTone 10 station intercom system. It’s 20 year old technology but it works and it’s pretty cool. I can talk to my chickens out in the barn while sitting on the toilet – I’ve always wanted that capability.

We have ten rooms including the bathrooms and garage. My grandson went through the house and counted 83 light switches. There are dimmers everywhere, nice, but some of it make no sense – a dimmer on the light in the basement stairwell? Who needs mood lighting when walking downstairs? The master bath has a three-way switch with a dimmer next to the toilet. The switches are literally within 8 feet of each other. I guess it is useful if you are sitting on the crapper and need some mood lighting but don’t want to get up and walk 8 feet to the wall switch.

I could use some warm dry weather about now. It was in the 50s Yesterday and I went down to the creek behind the house and sat and listened for a while. Peace! I do need to clear out some snags along the bank, but the water is clear and beautiful. Instead of lawnmowers and leaf blowers, this is what we hear from our deck now.



We paid less than $400k. 6000 sq ft, 6 bedrooms (5 now), 5 baths (4 now), barn, outbuildings, 5.6 acres. We are 8 miles south of I-70, 20 minutes to Lowes & HD, so not too far out in the sticks.

The shack is coming together. Last week we finished framing the deck extension. There is room for a table up there now.



The old deck wrapped around the south addition, bu was only 4 feet wide.



We now have a nice 12x12 space for a table and several chairs. We got high tables and chairs so we could look out over the rail



The view straight down the ravine to the creek is nice. Lots of wildlife to see down there - fox, coyote, wild turkey, herons, a bald eagle, deer, muskrats, etc



The view downstream is spectactular. This photo doesn't do it justice.
