To finish off this thread I bought the 75" Samsung 8000 series TV.
The best part was the scissor wall mount so I can move this sucker around.

Sony has the best upscaling 4k I have ever seen. For every one pixel in real signal, sony creates 3 and does a fantastic job. Since there is very little 4K content, it was the way to go for me. The 850E is amazing. The 900 if you have extra money to spend on it

^^^^^^^^

How is it I responded to a three month old thread that was near the top?? Anyways...

You do not need a smart TV to watch Netflix. However, you will need a Roku or something like that.

If you are thinking you want a smart TV, educate yourself on what apps are available through the TV and which ones are not. I purchased a Vizio smart TV prior to me fully understanding what smart TV's would and would not show, and let me tell you, I was very disappointed in what Vizio offered. I purchased a Samsung smart TV for my daughter and it was much better relative to the "smart" part.

If you do not want a smart TV, possibly, a Roku or other device may be for you. Check what Roku or the others are offering, though, before buying.

There are other options out there like Sling TV, Youtube, etc. I have a digital antenna to see my local channels (ABC, NBC, Fox, etc) and subscribe to Sling TV for the other things I want to watch.

Ok. I didn't read prior posts so this may be redundant.

I had a similar conversation a few years ago. We made a dedicated theater in our basement. 100% light control. That is important. It allowed us to buy a projector and have good contrast. You can get a wall screen for about $250. Our projector was $2000, but this was almost ten years ago. It is the single best thing we have done for our house. My son and I watched Tarantino last night. Good times!

Yes, get a ROKU or Apple TV.

Personally, I'd buy the "dumb" version of a particular set. Often the built in versions of streaming apps are kind of slow and sluggish and can present with odd interfaces features. And if that part breaks......

Much prefer to hang my own streaming device off it.

When I setup Sling TV, it came with a "Free" Roku. I had one already, but it was included. The thing is now Tiny and they have 4K versions.

we bought a new TV, something to consider. they are eliminating all your old devices.
my wii would not connect to it and even worse there was no analog audio out. I have to use headphones so I can hear the TV but there was no output for them.
we took it back.
the temporary TV we have now has a headphone out BUT when you plug into it the TV speakers no longer work. I have to run the headphone jack to my stereo then I have a separate output to my headphones.
I have an old DVD/vhs player that has the 3 RCA cables, it will only work with an older TV in the bedroom.

Sure. I have a 65 inch Vizio E series. It's just a display with smart cast capability, so I use the tablet and cast what I want to watch to the display via bluetooth.

As it turned out, I didn't need to pay for a smart tv, Vizio upgraded (free, without consent) my display to a smart tv about a year after I bought it.
