I did calligraphy way back in HS. Am an old fart now and don't even have the pens for it any more. Too easy to use fonts on the computer.

Here are some nice free blackletter fonts...

I would think a good tattoo artist is going to want to put their own spin on whatever you take them..

I think it's a kind of odd juxtaposition.

The style of script is common for masculine, hard core, even militant, representations. Or a German Beer label.

Using it for a girls name is odd, combining it with the flower, seems really off to me.

But what I think should not matter, it's your skin and if you like it go for it.

Yep you nailed that. I was wondering why it didn't look right to me. I would definitely choose a different font.

You might consult with a really (really) good tat artist... some of the are very talented artists and they are pros at this kind of thing.

Have you picked a tattoo artist? If not a good one will have a binder with pictures of their work.

I don't have any tats but shopped around when my brother died. I gave them an idea of what I wanted and they came up with some amazing stuff.

Edit to add: A good tat artist will be very experienced with calligraphy, no disrespect to your artistic meant at all, if you are happy with what you have done go for it.

In the USA, the flower is best known for a song in a popular movie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edelweiss_(song)

How do you think/feel about it?

Thanks!
In the last few years, it does seem to have become "inevitable" for most people to celebrate each accomplishment with a new tattoo. I think for you, this is wonderful, but I have never seen the alure of having any tattoo of any kind on my body.

What needs attention is the 'e'. I get ambiguity when I first see the word. I dont like ambiguity on something as permanent and personal as a tat. The 'e' looks like a 'c' to me.

I think the font does look pretty militant, but I don't know what other ink you have. If your covered in skulls and iron crosses, perhaps it's perfect. I think the font would look better if rendered in color, not black. Have a tattoo artist pitch you some ideas for color. Shades of blue with contrasting yellow/orange/red glow around it would soften things up.

I certainly like your idea better than those lame cursive tattoos everyone gets when making personal tributes to someone.

What is this NEO NAZI SHYTE??? The Edelweiss was the symbol for the Nazi German Mountain troops.

The font cant stand on its own as a style. There are way too many influences. Suffice it to say its sort of a hybrid Old English/Bavarian and even French style (i.e the flamboyant 'L').

The juncture of the script and the blossom petals makes me work too hard, especially so because tatoos are so ephemeral. I enjoy inks that tell me something the split millisecond after I see them.

The scale and shape of the image is really nice.

And, the juxtapositions of 'masculine' script and 'feminine' blossom and the black lettering against the color of the flower are statements in themselves.

I think sticking to a primary or tertiary color for the petals is the way to go. The hue and value of the flower color needs to oppose the text to separate the two chromatically.

Is that Edelweiss?

I'm not a great fan of German style writing either. Although I am part German (my grandmothers people came out here to "flee the noose") I think something easier to read, softer, would be nice.

Just kidding!
